Should I go for Metallurgy at NIT Raipur? How are the placements in the branch there?

DJ
Damini Jain Posted On : March 31st, 2021
B.Tech from National Institute of Technology, Raipur (2017)

NIT Raipur is a very good college and currently ranks at 67 in NIRF ranking among the top engineering institutes in India. And if you are a good student then maybe you can even get the CS branch as well.

Placements

  • Various companies visited on campus for placements. In addition, the faculty will also train you to clear the aptitude test and focus mainly on the orientation of the students.
  • The highest salary package offered was 7 lakh per year for metallurgy in software development, while the lowest was 4 lakh. So, on average, it went from 5 to 6 LPA, which is considered a decent package here in Raipur.
  • Infosys, Wipro, and Trendence are the top recruiting companies. A total of 5 to 6 out of 50 students are placed in reputed companies of India.

However, if you want to pursue M.Tech in a good college, study well and sit for GATE instead. The department of Metallurgy is famous at NIT Raipur and can help you in getting good scores.

Which is the better option, Material Science IIT Gandhinagar or Metallurgical Engineering at IIT BHU?

RS
Rohit Saha Posted On : March 12th, 2021
IIT BHU (2019)

You need to compare various aspects of both the institutes to reach a fair decision.  The parameters that you should consider for comparing are as follows.

  • Course Structure
  • Course Specialization
  • Facilities
  • Faculty Members
  • Placements
  • Projects, alumni network, and so on

If you see the course structure and specialization, BHU is the oldest center of study for Metallurgical Engineering hence has loads of data available. But on other hand, less data is available for Material Science at IIT Gandhinagar as it is a growing discipline in the Meta field.

Academics: (Winning Institute - IIT BHU)

  1. For IIT BHU, there are two specializations in post-graduation: Alloy Technology and Extractive metallurgy
  2. For IIT Gandhinagar, it’s Material Science and Engineering. The course is more focused on Biomaterials and nano-materials.

Here is the list of subjects for Metallurgy at IIT BHU with the first 5 being the core subjects:

  1. Metallurgical Thermodynamics and Kinetics
  2. Computational Methods for Metallurgy
  3. Computer Applications in Metallurgy Practical
  4. Materials Characterization
  5. Materials Characterization Practical
  6. Departmental Elective
  7. Humanities/Language

Facilities:

Now coming to the facilities, IIT BHU offers you a long list of facilities for this particular program which are:

  • Transmission Electron Microscopy Lab
  • Scanning electron microscopy with EBSD Lab
  • Projection Microscopy Lab
  • Structural Metallography Lab
  • Mechanical Testing Lab
  • Computer Lab
  • Extractive Metallurgy E&C Lab
  • Chemical Metallurgy Lab
  • Transport Phenomena Lab
  • Welding Lab
  • Foundry Lab

Faculty:

The faculty at both the institutes are quite good, to know more about the faculty you can visit their official websites:

Placements:

Now, coming to the placements, both the institutes offer moderate placements in these fields. Most of the students switch to Ph.D. from India as well as in international institutes.

All in all, it depends on your interest and goals. So,  make such decisions carefully.

What is the best career between a B. Tech in agriculture at PAU and a B. Tech in metallurgy at IGIT Sarang?

RN
Romila Nag Posted On : October 21st, 2020
B.Tech Mechanical Engineering, Indira Gandhi Institute of Technology, Sarang (2020)

IGIT Sarang is one of the best government colleges in Orissa. It is also only one government college of Orissa that is eligible to submit an Institutional Development Proposal. The admission process for Electrical Engineering is based on the results of JEE mains and Orissa-JEE.

Punjab Agriculture University holds #51 rank among universities in India issued by NIRF ranking, 2019. Admission for B. Tech in agriculture is wholly based on the results of JEE mains followed by interviews and counseling. The placement rate is also good for this university.

Tabulated below gives a brief overview of both institutions:

Particulars

IGIT Sarang

PAU

Total course fee

2.89 lakhs

2.67 lakhs

Total seats

120

8

Top recruiters

Ananda, Bhushan Steel, Infosys, Kanbay international, Larsen, and Toubro

Aries Agro, Chambal Fertilizers, CMC, IFFC, Nestle

Average salary

4 lakhs

4.2 lakhs

Admission process

B.Tech in Metallurgy at IGIT Sarang

  • Admissions are based on the results of JEE mains or OJEE valid rank followed by interviews and counseling.
  • With this students are also required to have at least 45% in 10+2 with required subjects(Physics and mathematics should be primary subjects).

B.Tech in Agriculture at PAU

  • The application process is fully online with an application fee of 610 INR.
  • Admissions for Agricultural Engineering are only based on the rank of JEE mains followed by interviews and counseling.

Placements

IGIT Sarang

  • Companies like Ananda, Bhushan Steel, Infosys, Kanbay international, Larsen and Toubro, Satyam Computers, TATA Consultancy Services, Visa Steel, etc visit the campus every year in search of good placements.
  • The average salary offered to students is 4 lakhs and the highest salary package is up to 10 lakhs.

Punjab Agricultural University

  • Companies like Aries Agro, Chambal Fertilizers, CMC, IFFCO, Jain irrigation, Kirloskar, Nestle, New Holland, NSM, etc visit every year for placements.
  • The average package offered for this course is 4.2 lakhs and the highest is up to 7 lakhs.

Both IGIT SARANG and Punjab agricultural university are equally good for both the courses. Both have good teaching facilities and good infrastructure. The environment of both Institutes is very friendly and engaging. Placements are available. But if we talk about the university in which we can get admission easily then IGIT Sarang is there as about 120 seats are available for this course and if we see the Punjab university then there are only 8 seats available.

Should I choose NIT Trichy for CSE or IIT Roorkee for metallurgy? Why?

AR
Anusha Rahaman Posted On : April 11th, 2023
Lived in Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee

My brother was in the CSE branch of NIT Trichy and based on his experience, here are a few pointers:

  • The professors are extremely learned and experienced and impart quality education
  • The relative grading system establishes peer pressure, and as a result, there is tough competition among the students
  • IIT Roorkee is well known for its rich coding culture that is promoted by student-driven and institute funded clubs. These clubs give you additional knowledge on web designing, App development, and game development that might be useful later in
  • The CSE department is one of the most coveted branches, and being a part of one will inculcate a sense of privilege.
  • The hostel and campus life is decent with all necessary amenities.
  • A total of 5 fests are held throughout the year and are totally funded and organized by the institute. The institute is located in an area that helps you explore nearby tourist spots like Pondicherry and Ooty.

You won’t ever regret choosing NIT CSE.
