What are the things a fresher should carry to MNNIT Allahabad?

SA
Shibu Ahuja Posted On : November 28th, 2023
Studied at Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology, Allahabad

There are some important things one must carry as a fresher to the hostel of MNNIT Allahabad, or for that matter, to any other technical Institute as well.

Some of them are-

  1. Some 12th standard books to brush up basic concepts, they are of use during the first year.
  2. A laptop. ‘Avishkar’- the college tech fest is held even before the first vacation, and a laptop is very useful for participating in it. Besides that, the internet connectivity is good on campus, and one should make proper use of this facility.
  3. A pair of formals for the ‘Avishkar’ interviews.
  4. A party-wear for ‘Swagat’.
  5. Some good novels for leisure reading.
  6. Some rough notebooks, and if possible, first year books. Upon stepping into the hostel, one can not move around for the first month. So having the books all this while helps in maintaining a proper study routine from the very start.

The first year hostels have a general purpose shop. It has all the basic necessities like drafter, copies, flip-flops, buckets, soap, shampoo, chips, pens, etc. But they have a limited variety of everything.

Bonding with seniors and one’s batchmates is the best way to ensure a smooth stay at MNNIT Allahabad.

What should I choose between IIT Mandi Civil and DTU CSE?

AB
Akriti Banerjee Posted On : May 23rd, 2023
lives in New Delhi

My sister too had to choose between IIT Mandi and another institute but chose IIT Mandi mainly because of its highly lenient branch change policy.

Placement-wise too, IIT Mandi gives an edge to DTU and NSIT. Here is a head-on comparison between the placement statistics of IIT Mandi and DTU.

Particulars

DTU

IIT Mandi

Highest CTC

INR 1.8 ???

INR 60 LPA

Average CTC

INR 15.16 LPA

INR 25.23 LPA

Top Recruiters

Amazon, Palantir, Adobe

Flipkart, 1mg, Microsoft, Uber,

Amazon, Walmart

While the highest CTC of DTU might seem higher, it’s the average package that actually determines the placement scenario of an institute. Considering that IIT Mandi is better than DTU. In fact, Electrical in IIT Mandi is even then DTU. Secondly, DTU’s increasing batch size is another major concern these days. I personally think DTU is overhyped because of its NCR location. Considering the fact that Delhiites get a quota of 80% you can infer how diluted the talent pool of DTU is.

RP
Rati Pandey Posted On : November 29th, 2022

According to media reports, the highest package offered during IIT Ropar placements was INR 50 LPA. Previously, the median package offered during IIT Ropar BTech placements 2021 was INR 12.4 LPA, according to the IIT Ropar NIRF report 2022. Furthermore, the placement rate for IIT Ropar placements in 2021 was 74%. ISRO, DRDO, ONGC, Indian Oil, Hindustan Petroleum, Bharat Petroleum, Tata Steels, Tata Motors, General Motors, Larsen and Toubro, Indian Navy, Coal India, SAIL, Hyundai, and many others are previous mechanical department recruiters.

In terms of location, IIT Ropar is well-connected to cities such as Delhi, Chandigarh, Mohali, Shimla, Jalandhar, and almost all of northern India. It is close to Chandigarh, a well-developed city with an international airport.

It has signed Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) with foreign universities and formed collaborations with several industries and universities to promote the development of research at IIT Ropar. Ropar is a calm and peaceful location that provides a beautiful setting for an institute like IIT.

Many students from the electrical/mechanical department have been chosen for the GSoC. (Google Summer Of Code). The institute covers the entire cost of the student's projects. The hostels are fully managed by students and have separate labs for robotics, coding, and other purposes. Regular workshops and guest lectures by experienced professors from various prestigious institutes are organized by the institute. Regular industrial visits are held to give students appropriate exposure to a practical working environment.

According to data, the undergraduate placement rate exceeds 94%. A total of 293 B. Tech students were offered positions. Six students will receive the highest domestic CTC of 44.10 Lakhs per year.

The average salary for a B.Tech is 18.95 lakh per year, and an M.Tech salary is 10.34 lakh per year.

PSUs such as Oil India Limited, BEL, IOCL, GAIL, Tatagarh Wagon Ltd, and C-DAC took part in the campus placements. Google, Amazon, Byjus, Gojek, Unacademy, Mathworks, Goldman Sachs, GE India, Flipkart, Adobe, Toppr Vedanta, Qualcomm, TCS R & D, Samsung, FlyFin, Paytm, D.E.Shaw, L&T, LTI, and Tata Steel are among the multinational corporations that have participated in this year's placements.

Without a doubt, IIT Ropar is far superior to Bhubaneswar because IIT Ropar provides a wide range of opportunities for its students to achieve excellence in their respective fields.

Are the new IITs such as IIT Patna good for a secure future?

Raktim Tarafdar Posted On : June 21st, 2023

Yes, the new IITs like Goa, Patna, etc provide good future prospects. However, you would like to consider these points.

  • Don’t go for the new IITs that don't operate from their permanent campuses as infrastructure and facilities play an important role in enhancing your academic environment.
  • You will face lesser competition in the new IITs during placements and the companies visiting are almost similar to the old IITs. Thus new IITs increase your chances of making it into a good company.
  • Old IITs enjoy a good prestige and thus have better ties with foreign universities thus making it easy to get LORs to do foreign internships or higher studies.
  • Old IITs are better for girls because the rules in new IITs are not well established and are in the developing stage so girls usually face a lot of restrictions here.

Now it is up to you to decide

How good is mechanical engineering at MNIT Jaipur?

RT
Raktim Tarafdar Posted On : October 9th, 2023

The Mechanical Engineering Department of MNIT Jaipur is one of the oldest branches of the institute. It enjoys a good reputation and the cutoffs are also high. Students of this branch are actively involved in various technical clubs and Societies like Zine(Robotics Club), BAJA SAE, and CAE. These societies provide a good platform to work on projects and also participate in many national competitions.

The Mechanical Engineering branch students of MNIT Jaipur have represented the college Internationally and also won many national-level competitions. It has also churned out many GATE toppers.

The placement scenario of the Mechanical branch is decent although no official data is released by the institute. Based on the information I got from a friend who is currently pursuing this course, the majority of the students get placed.

  • The average package is INR 8 LPA
  • PSUs offer placements for which eligibility is an 8+ CGPA
  • Internships are available at good companies like Flipkart and Amazon. Students can do internships in their 3rd year and get placed in their 4th year.

The Mechanical Engineering Department is rightly called the Golden Branch Of MNIT Jaipur.

How easy is it to change branch in IIT Roorkee?

RB
Riddhima Banerjee Posted On : April 12th, 2023
Studied at Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee

Branch change in IIT Roorkee depends on the specific circumstances and the branch you are looking to change to. In general, it can be a complex process that involves meeting certain requirements and going through an application and review process.

  • Firstly, you will have to fill out the branch change form after the first semester.
  • Once you fill out the form, a merit list will be prepared for each branch.
  • This merit list will include the name of the students who opted for branch change and the branch they want to get transferred to.
  • Those who made it into the merit list will be able to change their branch

The entire process is easy and difficult at the same time as it requires serious dedication and determination you had while preparing for JEE. You will have to keep yourself away from distractions to be able to achieve this. This might sound easier than done. So it’s better to train yourself to be disciplined and motivate yourself for branch change.
