What is that only IIM Kozhikode has but no other IIM does?

NK

Studied Post Graduate Programme in Management at Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode

If there is something unique to every IIM, then it’s their diverse environments. IIM Kozhikode has its own unique environment.

I think the most distinguishing characteristic of IIM Kozhikode has to be its resort-like infrastructure and location. One of my friends attended the Backwaters event in 2010. She narrated her experience of the same saying her 3-day stay at IIM Kozhikode was no less than a vacation. The college is seated at the top of a hill overlooking lush green fields. The view from the top is fantastic and you won’t regret coming here even a bit.

What should I choose between IIT BHU CSE and IIT Guwahati Maths and Computing?

BG
Bidita Ghose Posted On : May 3rd, 2023
Lives in Bengaluru, Karnataka, India

Both IIT BHU CSE and IIT Guwahati MnC are excellent options and the choice of the branch is a personal matter depending on the candidate's preferences rather than the credibility of the branch. Here are a few parameters on which we can draw a general comparison between the two courses.

  • Course structure: IIT Guwahati’s MnC program has a well-structured curriculum with the perfect blend of Computer Science, finance, and Mathematics courses. By the end of the program, you will be eligible to sit for software as well as finance placements. IIT BHU CSE too is known for its flexible course structure with a plethora of electives to choose from.
  • Coding culture: Undoubtedly, IITBHU has a better coding culture than IIT Guwahati. The ambiance is quite competitive at BHU if that’s what you are after. However, MnC too is gaining popularity and the decreasing opening rank can be seen as a proof of the same.
  • Peer group: High JEE rankers prefer IIT Guwahati over IIT BHU and thus the peer group of IIT Guwahati is more refined and superior in quality.
  • Campus and student life: IIT Guwahati has an amazing campus and its students get to live a very dynamic and lively college life. IIT-BHU’s campus on the other hand is underdeveloped and you can also find student politics here. IIT Guwahati is the best choice for nature lovers who like solace and peace while IIT BHU is for those who want to experience city life as well.
  • Student life: Both institutes have great clubs and activities to promote the holistic development of students. Students are allotted single rooms right from the first year at IIT Guwahati which is different from IIT BHU. Mess food is better at BHU. IIT Guwahati is a clear winner in sports, cultural and technical clubs, etc.
  • Placements: Both institutes have equally good placement scenarios with major recruiters like Microsoft, Google, Tower Research, Flipkart, etc. visiting both these campuses. CS and MnC students receive similar placement offers and in fact, being in MnC makes you eligible for both finance as well as software jobs.

Both the institutes and branches have their own strengths and weaknesses and the final decision should be based on what you want from your degree. If it’s a competitive environment you are after, go for IIT BHU, while if it’s a rich college life experience you want, then IIT Guwahati is your destination.

Which is better Jadavpur University or BITS Pilani? Why?

DR
Deepshikha Roy Posted On : April 22nd, 2023
studied at Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani

If you're considering Jadavpur University (JU) or BITS Pilani for computer science engineering (CSE), you're in luck, as both are top-notch institutes in India that are giving even the best IITs a run for their money (excluding the lower IITs).

Here are some affirmative statements to consider:

  • Choosing between JU and BITS Pilani can be a tough decision, as both are highly respected institutes with strong CSE programs.
  • When making your decision, consider factors such as location, campus culture, and program structure, in addition to academic quality.
  • JU's proximity to your home and easy access to transportation played a big role in your decision, but keep in mind that location may not be as important to other students.
  • While many students strive to get into the top IITs, it's important to remember that there are other great options out there, such as JU and BITS Pilani.
  • These institutes offer a more well-rounded college experience, with opportunities to participate in sports, and social activities, and spend time with family, while still receiving a high-quality education.
  • Keep in mind that getting into JU or BITS Pilani is still highly competitive and requires strong academic performance and a good rank in entrance exams like JEE Advanced. However, it's also important to consider your interests and goals when choosing a college and program.
  • Don't just go for the brand name or prestige if it means sacrificing your passion or future career prospects.
  • Both JU and BITS Pilani offer excellent CSE programs that can provide a solid foundation for a career in technology, regardless of whether or not you attend an IIT.

Ultimately, the decision of which college to attend is a personal one that should be based on a variety of factors. Do your research, talk to current students and alumni, and make a decision that aligns with your goals and values.

Which college should I choose? I have got selected at IIM Calcutta and NITIE.

BJ
Bhawana Jain Posted On : December 12th, 2022
IIM Lucknow2019; Converted IIML, K, SP Jain, NITIE

IIM Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Calcutta, and Lucknow are not suitable for the operations stream. If you are certain that this is the path you want to take, NITIE is the best option for you. The fact that the fees are less than half those of IIM C is an added bonus.

If you are unsure of which stream you want to pursue a career in or if you prefer a stream other than operations, IIM Calcutta is the best option.

Consider fees as an added benefit to NITIE. Do not consider it a deciding factor in your studies. Obtaining loans is simple; banks practically beg to lend to you. And once you graduate from college, you will be financially secure enough to cover your student loans.

Which is better for CSE, Thapar, LNMIIT, or IIIT Vadodara?

SG
Sandip Ghosh Posted On : March 24th, 2023
Studied at The LNM Institute of Information Technology (2020)

If you are facing a decision between different colleges, you are recommended to join LNMIIT.

While IIIT Vadodara may seem like an obvious choice, it does not yet have its own campus, and its curriculum is still unstable. Additionally, its placement record is not great. Therefore, IIIT Vadodara may not be the best option for you.

Thapar is a decent college with good infrastructure and facilities, but its student quality may not be as high as you would like. Half of the seats are reserved, and the competition for placements can be tough due to the high student intake. Furthermore, Thapar's reputation has been declining in recent years.

On the other hand, LNMIIT is an excellent choice. There are no reservations, and the number of seats is limited. You can check the college's website for information on placements and other important details. So if you want to make a wise choice, LNMIIT is your best bet.

Which one should I choose - ECE in NIT, Durgapur or IIIT, Allahabad?

Sapna Malik updated Posted On : October 16th, 2023

I completed my B.Tech ECE from NIT Durgapur a few years back. Thus, I can tell you about the ECE department of my college-

The placements for ECE are quite poor. Barely any core companies visit the campus for recruitments. As a result, ECE students try for IT companies during the placement season. The curriculum is also not up to the mark. It needs to be updated and aligned with present day needs of the semiconductor industry. Scoring good CGPAs is easy but one has to stay updated on the industry standards on our own.

IIIT Allahabad has a research oriented environment, and its attendance policy is quite lenient. It offers good placements in the IT department. Try to approach some seniors from IIITA to find out the condition of its ECE branch.

If the B.Tech ECE at IIIT Allahabad is as good as its B.Tech IT, consider joining this college over NIT Durgapur.

Which is better, an MME at NIFFT, Ranchi, or CSE at IET, Lucknow?

KS
Khushi Singhal Posted On : August 6th, 2021
B.Tech from National Institute Of Foundry & Forge Technology (2021)

It is entirely up to you to decide what you wish to study, as CSE and MME are two quite different courses.

If you don't care about the branch and only care about the brand and placement, MME at NIFFT Ranchi is the way to go because the placement scenario is good with huge firms like TATA Motors, KPMG, FIITJEE, and others visiting campus every year. According to the recent placement statistics the average CTC offered at the placement drive is 4.50 LPA.

Furthermore, you will have the opportunity to appear in GATE, and NIFFT has a reputation for delivering single-digit ranks every year.

In the end, I would suggest you talk to seniors to get a clear picture. Only then make any decision.

IIT Delhi or IIT Kanpur for electrical engineering? Also, I really dont know what my interest is in, how do I know if electrical engineering is right for me?

SN
Saugata Nayak Posted On : April 20th, 2023
Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur (2020)

As far as the choice of the Institute is concerned, I will recommend you go for IIT Delhi instead of IIT Kanpur. Here are a few reasons that support my recommendation

  • Ranking-wise, IIT Delhi Electrical is better than IIT Kanpur.
  • Location-wise too, IIT Delhi fairs are better than Kanpur considering its central location. Moreover, it has the facilities of coaching institutes nearby, making it possible for students to prepare for higher exams

Coming to the choice of the branch, it might be difficult for some to identify their area of interest as of now. However, I can give you a slight info into both of the most preferred branches viz CS and Electrical.

CS: It comprises abstract math and algorithms. It involves step-wise problem-solving concepts wherein you get an answer after following a clear pattern. If this is your forte, then CS is for you.

Electrical: If you like playing with circuits and have an interest in dealing with graphs and their analysis, EE is for you.

As a side interest, you can always opt for open electives after the 2nd year that allows you to pursue more than one branch at a time. Truth be told, the packages offered to CS students are bigger than those offered to EE students.
