Solutions and Explanation
Approach Solution : 1
Let us consider 8 ounces = 1/2 pounds as (a)
On Multiplying (a) by 2 on both sides we get,
16 ounces = 1 pound which is (b)
On Multiplying (a) by 3/4 on both sides we get,
12 ounces = 3/4 pounds which is (c)
On Multiplying (a) by 7 on both sides we get,
112 ounces = 7 pound which is (d)
Adding (c) and (d) we get
12 ounces + 112 ounces = 7 pounds + 3/4 pounds
124 ounces = 7 3/4 pounds
Correct Answer: (D)
Approach Solution : 2
The question clearly says 8 ounces are present in half a pond.
Therefore, 8 ounces= 0.5 pound
Which gives us, 4 ounces = 0.25 pound
Which gives us, 16 ounces =1 pound
So the calculations are as follows,
7.75pounds= (7∗16)+(3∗4)Ounces = (112+12)Ounces = 124 ounces.
Correct Answer: (D)
Approach Solution : 3
Let us convert 7 3/4 to 31/4 and make the proportion. n is the number of ounces
8/(1/2) = n/(31/4)
16 = 4n/31
16 x 31 = 4n
4 x 31 = n
124 = n
Correct Answer: (D)
