The Words 'together with', 'along with', 'as well as' GMAT Grammar

The words 'together with', 'along with', 'as well as' and 'in addition to' do not make the subject plural in GMAT sentence correction questions. The words 'together with', 'along with', 'as well as' and 'in addition to'

The use of “as well as” and “together with”: When the subject of a phrase is increased by an expression like also, concurrently, or additionally, the subject's number is unaffected in GMAT Sentence Correction.
The singular verb is used when the subject is singular and remains such.
Coordinating conjunctions are not used with phrases like coupled with, as well as, together with, not to mention, and others. Therefore, you do not create a plural subject when you employ these expressions to connect one singular subject of a sentence with another word or pronoun. The verb must be written in the single form.

“As well as” does not make the sentence plural:

Consider a sentence
Roman, as well as Perry, want to drop the course. [incorrect]
In this instance, the word want must agree with the preceding noun as well.
Roman, as well as Perry, wants to drop the course. [correct]
In other words, the verb must agree with the noun before and while it is a component of the subject.

Verbs coming after “as well as” are in -ing form:

As well as verbs are followed by verb tenses ending in -ing. (A non-native speaker would find this to sound incredibly weird, yet grammar texts all agree on this.)

Running not only makes you feel good, but it is also beneficial.
He demolished the wall and broke the window.
She designs not only clothing but also doodles.

Keep in mind the distinction between the previous and subsequent sentences:

She designs garments and sketches as well.
[She is equally talented in drawing and designing]

“Together with," “along with," and “in addition to” have no effect on a number of nouns:

When a sentence's subject is increased by an expression like also, also, or additionally, the subject's number is unaffected. The singular verb in GMAT grammar is used when the subject is singular and remains such.

Examples:

• My cousin, as well as her entire family, is moving to London.

The subject is singular and is my cousin. Instead of the plural verb "are," use the singular verb "is."

• Flashing red lights as well as a sign on the beach warn tourists of potential danger.

Flashing red lights is the subject's plural form. Instead of using the singular verb warns, use the plural verb warns.

• My sister, together with her husband, is traveling to France.
• All the tickets, including yours, have been booked.
