Answer: D
Explanation:
the given condition states that-
June is taller than Kristin.
Letty is taller than Maria.
Maria is shorter than Nancy.
Kristin and Nancy are exactly the same height
In order to find which one of the given options are true, the first way is to identify these given conditions through a number line. It can be seen that people on the left are taller than the people who are on the right such that-
Let, June be J; Krishtin be K; Letty be L; Maria be M; Nancy be N
Accordingly, the left people are taller than the right people-
J —-------------- K = N
L-------M
N-------M
Now, the position of N with respect to L cannot be determined so it can be any of the following cases.
J--------K=N-----L----M
or
J-----L----K=N-----M
Since, these cannot be said for sure, one of the cases which can be surely stated is that June is taller than Kristin and Nancy. This is because Kristin and Nancy have the same height. However, considering that
Nancy is taller than Maria as well as Kristin in that case, it can be assured that June is taller than Maria.
Hence, June being taller than Maria is the only case which can be determined to be true therefore, option D being the correct answer.
