This will attract the attention of others because the code of ethics can draw negative attention in the long run. It can severely damage the company’s reputation sooner or later. This suggestion is based on the loss of the company’s competitor after their code of ethics was released.

The argument is unclear with a lack of several points and some assumptions of its own. The argument seems to have a lack of research and seems less like an instant decision. It seems to lack very important information. It hasn’t considered the possible reasons for the loss of its competitor, it lacks a strategy for its publicity and the idea of publicity seems like a contradiction in itself. The lack of a code of ethics can be directly related to the lack of morals.

Following are the reasons why it lacks strength:

First of all, the company is being to its competitor on grounds that could possibly be unrelated. The competitor is said to have gone through some downfall after the release of its code of ethics. There is no mention of what those ethics were. There is also a good chance that the matter did not involve only the code of ethics but some other points too. These were not ignorable and caught the eyes of the media. The argument seems to have been given less thought in thinking of the company’s positive side. It was more of how the competitor has faced its downfall and how to avoid that loss.

The second reason is that the memorandum mentions contradicting statements. While the memorandum mentions the competitor, it seems pretty clear that the company wants to avoid publicity or media. This is to stay out of a bad reputation. However, by adding social work, it is attracting the media which can eventually question the company’s reputation at some point. Also, there is a good chance that social work itself won’t do enough for the company. If the company wants good publicity then social work alone won’t be able to contribute much. Hence, the memorandum should have included more ideas than just these. The memorandum could have added more methods like social media publicity. This would in fact, be in the hands of the company and it would be the company’s choice to handle its reputation.

Another point is that the lack of ethics can affect the company more. The lack of ethics can create moral disturbances among the employees and this can severely affect the company and its reputation. This can result in the degradation of the work quality and the sacrificed quality of work can damage the company’s reputation. Ethics define a boundary of what to do and what not to do, and without this boundary, the company could get involved in many unethical policies. The lack of an ethical code seems unnecessary and irrelevant to harming the reputation of a company, it might save the company from loss than cause the same.

To conclude, the arguments seem to lack logic and seem more of a quick decision rather than a well-thought plan. The memorandum seems to lack the point of the actual increase in the growth of the company. It seems more focused on the reasons for the downfall of its competitor and seems to try its best to only avoid that. The value of ethics is ignored and undermined in comparison to the value of publicity contrary to the statements mentioned in the memorandum. Ethical code is necessary for a company to run and hence, the points against it are not strong enough to hold the argument.
