BITSoM

Hi, I am Rahul, a founding class student at BITS School of Management, Mumbai. I completed BE in 2017 and has 3+ years of experience as an R&D Engineer with Synopsys India Pvt. Ltd. For me, the first two months were a frenzy of activity with loads of learning compared to the relatively sedate life of a software engineer where I had a fixed set of problems to solve and, most importantly, a static sleep routine (pun intended). However, these two months helped me discover a lot more of what I am capable of, and the talent and diversity of the cohort of 2023 at BITSoM enabled me to test my boundaries even further. This is still a work-in-progress, and I am excited to see the self-transformation that we will go through after these 2 years at BITSoM. The talented professors from the best universities worldwide ensured that we never let our guard down and kept us updated with real-life applications of the smallest topics we studied here. Of course, those were big “Aha!” moments, even for those of us with significant work experiences at BITSoM. But, of course, the best part of any subject was the subsequent discussions that took place around the questions in the assigned study material, accompanied, of course, by late-night pizzas and strong coffee. But, of course, it was not all work and no play.

Don’t get me started on the fabulous parties we had after particularly stressful blocks at the 5-star Renaissance Hotel, Mumbai. Those parties prepared us effectively for the next block and helped us bond with other batchmates and form more extensive networks. The course kicked off with the O-week, during which I learned lots of life skills from industry leaders such as Mr. Kumar Mangalam Birla himself on the first day. It ended with lots of fun (and excitement) on the talent night where I saw my peers outdo themselves on the virtual stage, giving us all a stitch in our sides in the process with all the laughter. Personally, the blocks for business statistics and Marketing management kept me on my toes as both Professor Rohit Deo and Professor Piyush Kumar respectively had many business perspectives for the smallest of topics they taught. So, it was essential to keep a note of everything. The first two months at BITSoM have changed me a lot as a person, and it has something to do with the diverse and talented peers I am working with. They push me every day to test my boundaries.

Overall, the first two months at BITSoM were not only a great mix of industry teachings but also of the personal, real-life context, and a mix of teamwork and collaboration, as well as individual reflection. It was fully packed with a great amount of content. Every session was a lot interesting in its own way in the first two months of BITSoM.
