Rahul Gupta is presently working as Assistant Professor & Head of the IT Department at SR Institute of Management and Technology (SRIMT), Lucknow. With a rich experience in teaching and research, he has completed M. Tech from Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Technical University. What are your roles and responsibilities towards the students?

“Prepare Students to function in a dynamic environment”

Using a judicious blend of concepts, theory, and practice to prepare the students to function in a dynamic environment is my role towards them. My main emphasis is to develop the skills and aptitude and to put acquired knowledge into practice which makes the learning interesting for the students.

How do you try to bring in a practical approach to subjects?

“Providing Students with Industrial projects and research related learning”

Rigorous exams and mandatory research projects to apply knowledge accumulated into cutting-edge research aid students with the best practical skills. Projects in Departments in specific industries to gain hands-on experience, Personality Development Programmes to groom the students as per industry requirements are offered at the SRIMT campus. Students from rural backgrounds are groomed in a manner so that they shed their inhibitions and mature as competent professionals. We encourage the students to apply theoretical learning to real-life scenarios in the form of case studies, research, and events.

SRIMT has gone much beyond the AICTE defined norms in creating a campus that facilitates the 360-degree development of students and faculty. Different learning methods are used which are appropriate to the course and help the students in developing the habit of thinking, questioning, analyzing, and decision making. The overriding principle behind all the activities taken up by the students is aimed at developing a better individual and a better personality as a whole and not merely a good technocrat or a manager.

How do you expose students to real-world challenges?

“Establish industrial relevance with various tools and techniques for enhancing the skills of students”

Project-Based Learning bridges the gap between academic syllabus and skills required by today’s fast-growing industries. Regular Project Fairs are organized and Industry Experts are invited to give inputs to each project group. Seminars, Industrial Visits, and Counselling Sessions are arranged to keep students up-to-date with real-world practices. Laboratories with State of the Art equipment, hardware, software, and teaching aids are provided to the students. Generally, the batch is a mix of students with truly diverse backgrounds with exceptional qualitative, analytical, and scientific ability and a strong will to compete. Interaction with Eminent Speakers and Guests of the industry and industry-oriented projects are arranged for the students as well. 

What approaches do you bring in apart from curriculum to teach the students?

The Mentors prepare the students for life with Technical, Managerial, Leadership, and other relevant skills. Apart from the curriculum, we carry out activities like Yoga, Meditation, and Motivational Talks to boost student spirit. We also have various cultural and sports events being organized throughout the year. Industry interactions are done via frequent industry visits, seminars, and conferences.
