Dr. Bhabani Shankar Dash is presently working as the Principal at Dr. Ambedkar Memorial Institute of Information Technology and Management Science (DAMITS), Rourkela. With several years of work experience in administration, industry and academics, he has been the Chairperson, Committee Member and Coordinator of many professional bodies and academic programs at national level. Besides conducting and attending several workshops, FDPs, seminars and conferences, and publishing numerous research papers, he has received Appreciation Certificate from MHRD, GoI, Innovation Cell, and Quality Award 2014-15 from district Governor.

How would you describe your leadership style?

“Participation and delegation of power”

Leadership is something very different from bossism or power-taking. I believe in participative management of tasks with my teammates to ensure full responsiveness and support from them. At DAMITS, we have a system of delegating authorisation to different persons and jointly taking decisions with mutual exchange of ideas. 


How do you strategize about the administration of your Institute?

“Structural organization and participation to lead the institute”

DAMITS is a NAAC accredited institute with active member participation. Whether it is academic or administration, we plan for everything right from the beginning of the academic session and try to execute it throughout the session. Our Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) is a very active cell which plans for everything keeping in mind the needs and requirements of students as a priority. Apart from it, our management is very participative in strategist policies to upgrade with the trends in the marketplace. 


How does the curriculum of DAMITS ensure the best practice of industry? 

“Industry - academic integration along with training sessions”

Curriculum is basically designed by the affiliating University – in our case it is Biju Patnaik University of Technology (BPUT) Odisha. But execution is the responsibility of the concerned college. We at DAMITS, gives utmost thrust on overall improvement of students by applying different methods and techniques like industry academics interaction, projects, students and faculty exchange programmes, seminars, workshops etc. We offer short-term internships and training programs to expose students to practical world situations and learn related solutions.

What would you like people to know about your institute they may not know?

A Principal plays the role of the engine and all other stake-holders are like coaches. But the most important aspect of being a principal of such a big institution is taking care of student’s growth during and after the classroom timetable. I ensure a positive working environment to authenticate holistic development of my students with best possible resources and facilities that are being provided in the campus.

“Be positive and manage your time well”

I can only advise them to be positive in their mindset and subtle about their methodologies. They must utilize their time in a very productive way and gain more and more knowledge. They must develop themselves into a strong and successful professional.
