J.B Institute of Engineering

What are the factors that make this program the best for the students to opt for?

"The institute has been designing and refining its curriculum based on its Vision and Mission to provide high quality education to its students"

J.B. Institute of Engineering and Technology (JBIET) has been conferred autonomous status by UGC in 2014. Design and development process of the curriculum remained inclusive and continuous practice. The institute follows a choice-based credit system (CBCS) and the curriculum is carefully designed to incorporate the AICTE model curriculum and fulfill the requirements of the stakeholders.

Development and revision of the curriculum is very robust and are based on ever-changing advancements in technology and inputs received from various stakeholders. Department's Academic Committee prepares a draft on curriculum, Board of Studies (BoS) examines and refines after thorough discussions. Then, the Academic Council (AC) reviews and approves it for implementation after long deliberations. The approved curriculum is informed to the Board of Governors and finally shared with all stakeholders and implemented.

In order to ensure the holistic development of the students, the institution has incorporated life skills in the curriculum. Appropriate credits are also given to internships and project works to encourage experiential learning among the students. The institution also has MoUs with various reputed organizations to provide required training to the students and make them potential in facing interviews.

There have been remarkable changes in the curriculum during the last five years. The Syllabi of all the programs were revised. A total of 316 new courses were introduced and a total of 800 distinctive courses were offered during the last five years. The core focus of these courses was not only to impart employability skills but also to inculcate skill development and entrepreneurship skills.

What is your take on the New Education Policy?

The New Education Policy 2020 of the Government of India identifies education and institutional capacity building as two programmes that could support the implementation of sustainable development of the country and also make it self-reliant (atma nirbhar).

Many changes have been proposed by NEP like second degree programs with B. Tech, Gap Year facility, Honors and Minor degree etc. have given the student more freedom to choose the right path with high standards.

What are some valuable insights of the program that you are offering at your institute/dept.that align with the latest educational policy?

"JBIET is committed and striving for continuous development and has been aligning with the guidelines"

Some of the new features added in R22 regulations are:

  • Second degree program BBA(DA) of 138 credits in parallel with B. Tech
  • Break of Study from a Program (Gap Year): The gap year concept is introduced for start-up (or) incubation of an idea, National/International Internships, and professional Volunteering.
  • More weightage for Continuous Internal Evaluation
  • Flexibility of completing professional electives from MOOC courses
  • Honors and Minor degree

How does the program ensure that students are being prepared for the future post-pandemic corporate culture?

"In my opinion Pandemic has opened the doors of talent with extended reach"

An “Employer/ employee can work from anywhere” is something never thought of. The students of JBIET are also well equipped with the technological developments during pandemics like ZOOM, Microsoft Teams etc. No activity like Lifeskills, soft skills, Labs, internships, projects, NSS service has left unattended during a pandemic.

What are your views on the future of education in the rapid trend of technological addition in every course curriculum?

"The teacher needs to justify,' why do you need a teacher when you have Google'."

The subjects which we have studied in engineering are being taught at the school level. The skills like programming in python, C, Java etc., and exposure to different technologies are being introduced at the school level. This brings a new challenge in the courses of engineering too. Every student should be satisfied in terms of curriculum updates.

How do you tend to build an industry connection with the new roles that are being offered by companies?

"JBIET is ahead of thinking in new ways to connect with industries"

We have a program where we tie up with the industries and faculty get trained in the industries to get cope up with the latest advancements. And there comes the concept of “ Train the trainers”. Also different MOUs with industries and the top most industrial dignitaries are on the board of Board of Studies, Academic Council and Board of Governors. JBIET has an MOU with T-Hub which is the largest innovation intermediary and business incubator in the country.
