Mona Khan is a well-known faculty member, teaching in the various Design departments of the Poddar Group of Institute, Jaipur. She is the assistant professor and coordinator of the Design Department at Poddar College. She has completed her Masters in Garment Production & Export Management. Her area of specialization is Designing. She has teaching experience of more than 10 years in the Design Academic Industry.
What are your roles & responsibilities towards the students?
“To monitor, lead, train, and manage staff and also conduct research and set goals”
My role is to ensure that overall day-to-day operations run smoothly. To include effective classroom teaching, academic advising and counseling of students, participation in departmental committee work, continuous development of the curriculum through assessment, applied research or scholarly activity, and service such as assisting in the recruitment of students.
How do you tend to establish healthy relations with the students and fellow faculty?
“Student-Teacher interaction is the best way to establish healthy relations”
To include good communication, a safe learning environment, mutual respect, a positive and patient attitude, student equality, and timely praise. Spend 1-On-1 time with a Student who struggles with their behavior issues.
How do you try to bring a practical approach to the curriculum?
“Providing students with industry-oriented meets, webinars, and workshops”
Fashion, Interior & Textile design subjects are skill-based and practice-oriented. In these subjects, practical knowledge is more important than theoretical knowledge. Practical work includes experiments in workshops, laboratories, study tours, projects, assignments, etc. the advantages of practical work are unmatched. Getting theoretical knowledge has no value until students can apply it for practical purposes.
What are the best practices offered by the department to the students?
“The best practice offered by the department is to provide students with work-integrated learning opportunities”
It’s important for students to realize, that they shouldn’t consider themselves to be in competition with their peers when it comes to testing scores and assignments. To help students build their self-awareness, providing work-integrated learning opportunities and getting students out into the real world, to encourage students to get out of their comfort zones are the best practices offered by the department to the students.

How do you strategize and update the curriculum to make it befitting for the students?
“Strategize the curriculum by updating its syllabus at regular intervals”
An effective curriculum provides teachers, students, and school leaders with a measurable plan and structure for delivering quality education. The curriculum strategizes are to Identify resources, develop experiences that meet objectives, collect and devise materials, lock down the specifics of tasks, develop plans, methods, and processes & create our student's experience.
What are your views on the placements and higher education of the students from your department?
“All information should be provided to the students related to both placements and higher education”
Work Placement allows students to put the theory of what they have learned in college into real-life work practice, whilst also helping students gain extra knowledge and lifelong skills that students can carry forward in their future careers.
Studies have shown that acquiring a higher education increases their lifespan in that it equips them with the ability to make better life choices, make healthier choices and have better access to healthcare, economic stability, and financial security.
How do you help your student to cope up with the competition?
“Create a culture of cheerleading and good sportsmanship”
To encourage our learner students to compete against themselves, Be transparent about competition performance, and Create a culture of cheerleading and good sportsmanship.
Do you have any extracurricular programs to enhance the skills of the students?
“Extracurricular activities are taught to students to expose them to real-world challenges”
Fundamentally, extracurricular activities allow students to learn something that could stay with them for a lifetime & boost academic performance. Yes, we prepare students to get exposure to real-world challenges by participating in various competitions & other extra activities apart from academics & their student learns new skills.
What are the challenges you faced to uplift the quality of education of your department?
“Balancing the diverse learning needs was the biggest challenge I faced”
Balancing diverse learning needs, the types of students in a classroom is different and they are having diverse learning needs. Satisfying all of them in the same way while approaching a particular curriculum is a serious challenge.
