12th April 2018, Visakhapatnam: Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has signed on a MoU with GITAM Visakhapatnam Deemed to be University for the first time in India to train engineering students, particularly IT, ECE and Computer Science students on new telecommunication technologies.

The MoU between the organizations also allows the students to do internship/Project to learn BSNL infrastructure, hands-on experience in all Telecom streams namely Digital Switching, Digital Transmission Systems (Optical Fiber Communication), Wireless Communications, Mobile Communications, Broadband Technology Services, IP Networking and Cyber Security and Telecom Support Infrastructure.  

BSNL General Manager G.Adam and GITAM Institute of Technology Principal Prof. K. Lakshmiprasad exchanged the MoU documents in the presence of GITAM Vice-Chancellor Prof. M.S. Prasada Rao, GITAM Human Resource Director S. Sambamurthy, ECE Department HOD Prof. Jayasree and other senior faculty members.

While interacting with GITAM officials, BSNL General Manager G.Adam informed that BSNL will provide the training to GITAM students through their Training Centers located in Visakhapatnam, Hyderabad, and Bengaluru. He said that BSNL will act as Training Provider (BSNL-TP) to enhance the knowledge of GITAM students through training programs, internships, and online certificate programs.  He informed that BSNL is equipped with 15 years teaching experience faculty who successfully trained 600 students through Employability Enhance Training Programs (EETP). He also mentioned that BSNL is mainly focusing on 5G technologies to fulfill the goal by 2020. He said that this is the first MoU to BSNL in the country with a University.

GITAM Vice-Chancellor Prof. M.S. Prasada Rao expressed that the MoU is a great opportunity to GITAM students to build a strong knowledge base in the area of telecommunications. He also showed interest to extend the opportunity to management students to offer telecom management related training.
