Dr Kanchan Batra is the Head of the Zoology Department at the Kalindi College, University of Delhi. She has a Ph.D. in Zoology (Ecology) and has been teaching at this college since 2014. She has a rich teaching experience of more than 15 years and is an extremely passionate academician. She is also the convener of the Zoological Society of Kalindi College, DU. She aims to provide the best in class education to her students and learners.
What are your responsibilities towards the students and faculty of this college?
“Impart knowledge, good values, modern-day challenges, and ways to resolve academic issues”
I am bound to act as an interface between the Principal office, students and faculties of the department. I have to ensure the smoother process of admissions, assessments, resolving student grievances, etc. I provide instruction and support at some level which facilitates the participation of students in their field.
Which is the latest course offered by your department for students’ benefit?
“Career-oriented courses in Zoology at the undergraduate program”
We are currently offering the B.Sc(Hon) Zoology course at the UG level for interested students. Through this course, we manage the student-centric teaching-learning methods such as experiential learning, participative learning, and problem-solving methodologies. We also share knowledge and resources for conducting interdisciplinary workshops, seminars, webinars, etc. for the better learning of our students.

What valuable advice would you like to give the students for a prosperous career ahead?

As an educator, our role is to motivate and direct students towards the right direction. There is a thin line between knowledge and information. We should understand this difference. Students should believe in themselves. Believe that they can succeed and will find ways through different obstacles. Try to learn from your mistakes, so you can move closer to success even though you initially failed.
