CLAT 2023 Exam Analysis

CLAT 2023 has been conducted on December 18, 2022, from 2 PM to 4 PM. Check the detailed analysis for each section provided below:

• Candidates reported the overall difficulty of CLAT 2023 to be moderate. Most of the students found the paper o be lengthy.
• There were no surprise elements and the paper was as expected.
• The Current Affairs Section was reported to be tough. Legal Reasoning was the easiest.
• The Logical Reasoning Section was also reported to be difficult to attempt. 
• The Quantitative Ability Section was reported to be easy to moderate. As per experts around 15 minutes might be enough in order to attempt the Quantitative Ability Section.
• The English Language section was easy to moderate. The Vocabulary was a bit tough but reading comprehension based questions were easy. However, the passages were a bit lengthy.

CLAT 2020 Paper Analysis

CLAT 2019 Paper Analysis

CLAT Paper Analysis turns out to be a mandate for all law aspirants as it gives a glimpse of how the paper may look like in the upcoming sessions. As for CLAT 2019, the exam was successfully conducted on May 26 in pen-paper (offline) mode. According to the experts, the overall difficulty level of CLAT 2019 was low, though it was lengthy due to several legal reasoning questions. In comparison to the previous year’s paper, several questions in the legal aptitude section were from legal reasoning which made the paper lengthy.

• All the sections were easy but time-consuming. Surprisingly, no questions were asked from “Constitution of India” and Legal Knowledge. 
• In the GK and Current Affairs section, 45-46 questions were from Current Affairs and rest 3-4 questions were static which was related to recent events.
• The questions were asked from the events of the past 3-4 months.

CLAT 2018 Paper Analysis

The law entrance examination had 200 questions spread across five sections – Legal Aptitude, General Knowledge & Current Affairs, Logical Reasoning, English, and Elementary Mathematics. Each question had a weightage of one mark, and a negative marking of one-fourth marks was applicable for each incorrect answer.

Legal Aptitude

• As per the experts, this was the easiest section.
• It had close to 35 legal reasoning questions which were simple and direct.
• There were a few questions on Legal Knowledge mostly based on the Constitution.
• It had 8-10 Legal GK questions, including static LGK questions.
• A score of around 36-37 can be considered as a safe score for this section.

General Knowledge and Current Affairs

• The questions were on predictable lines, i.e. questions were from Current Affairs.
• Static GK questions (15 questions) dominated this section.
• A few questions based on events in early 2018 where asked.
• As the questions were straightforward, the difficulty level of the section was quite easy.

Logical Reasoning

• This section had tricky questions, especially the 3 puzzles that were asked.
• Questions were based on Blood relations, Coding & Decoding, Syllogisms, etc.
• It was a relatively lengthy but easy section. 

English

• Another predictable section has one reading comprehension with 10 questions.
• Different question types were vocabulary (5 Ques.), sentence correction (5 Ques.), and short paragraphs with one question each (4 – 6 Ques.).
• This section can be considered the most scoring section out of the lot.

Elementary Mathematics

• This section was the most difficult and time-consuming one out of all the sections.
• The section was dominated by time and work, speed distance, and time questions. 
• Even good students did not have a serious attempt above 10-12.

CLAT 2017 Paper Analysis

The national-level law entrance examination was conducted for UG and PG Programs on the same day and time. The level and type of questions were different.

Legal Aptitude

The questions were easy to moderate. Out of 50 questions, 35 questions were based on Principle Facts and 15 were Legal GK questions. The majority of students stated that the legal reasoning section was quite easy.

The legal reasoning section was dominated by contract law, and criminal law followed by constitutional law and torts questions. Surprisingly, there were no questions from Intellectual Property, Family Law, or International law. In all, the section was from easy to moderate level.

General Knowledge and Current Affairs

Current affairs dominated the section. Unlike previous years, questions on history and static areas were completely missing. More questions were testing a candidate’s knowledge of Personalities, Economy, and International Organizations formed a good part of the section.

Logical Reasoning

The difficulty level of this section was low. Questions were majorly from Arrangements, Directions, Blood Relations, Series, and Syllogisms. Verbal Reasoning had 12 questions based on analogy, vocabulary, odd one-out, and syllogisms. Questions on topics such as Statement Argument, Statement-Assumption were only one or two in number.

English

As per the analysis, the section was a bit lengthy and the reading comprehension was quite tricky. Again, the section was considered to be the most predictable one. Fill in the blanks, sentence correction, spelling correction, and error detection questions dominated the section. The reading comprehension was lengthy (800 words) and tricky. There were no vocabulary-based questions.

Elementary Mathematics

This section was the most difficult and time-consuming one out of all the sections. The section was dominated by time and work, speed distance and time questions. There were no questions from the geometry section.

CLAT 2016 Paper Analysis

RGNLU Patiala conducted CLAT 2016 on May 8, 2016. As per the paper analysis, it was considered as the easiest Common Law Admission Test ever. The experts said the paper looked like CLAT 2014 conducted by GNLU.

• Time management and accuracy are essential when it to comes to solving CLAT papers. Candidates must plan and strategize the sections and practice immensely to avoid running out of time during the exam.
• Keep in mind that there is no sectional time limit. SO aim for the sections which you are good at or are easier before solving the harder sections.
• It helps to know the exam pattern and syllabus of CLAT to solve the questions without any surprises.
• Candidates must also familiarize themselves with the range of questions from each section. There s no fixed number of questions from either section.
• Work on your reading speed and practice reading every day in a way that you do not miss out on any important information while reading long passages.
• GK questions are asked from recent events. DO not miss our on these while preparing.
• CLAT questions are not consistent in difficulty. While some questions are easy, others are difficult.
• Number Systems, Algebra, and Geometry are the most popular topics from Quant Techniques. Probability, Permutation, and Combination are not that important.
• Visual and pictorial questions are common in the quant section and candidates must familiarize themselves with the same.
