Ans. NIT Rourkela's newly launched branch Food Processing has a wide scope for development and research and its worth cannot simply be judged through its placements. It caters to the ones interested in the production and processing of food and maintaining its quality. The branch covers all arenas of food marketing from developing food and machines to keeping the food safe. It comprises concepts from various other branches too like mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, and Food Science and Engineering. As there is growth and development in India with respect to Food and Beverage Processing, there has opened up a gate for great research and job opportunities, as well, in the near future or I would say it has already started. I asked a friend about the placement scenario of the branch and he told me that around 80-85% of students are placed. The highest salary package offered is 17 LPA. There is no major difference between the two universities in terms of their infrastructure and faculty members. Even though the eligibility criteria is not disclosed yet, the name suggests clearly that students with a Food and Technology degree will be considered. So, in that case, there is an upside to this, with almost no worries concerning the quota for a student having a BTech degree in food technology to apply for the IIM, Ahmedabad.
