About Calcutta University
University of Calcutta, informally known as Calcutta University or CU, is public-state university located in Kolkata, West Bengal. Established in 1857, it is the oldest multidisciplinary university of Indian Subcontinent and South East Asian Region. Calcutta University is recognized as a "Five-Star University" and accredited an "A++" grade by the NAAC. Calcutta University is ranked 12th among the top universities in India in NIRF Rankings 2023.
Calcutta University has a total of 14 campuses located in different parts of Kolkata. A total of 154 colleges, 21 institutes, and centers are affiliated with Calcutta University. Calcutta University Admissions
Calcutta University admissions to all UG and PG programs are based on merit and entrance examination. Admissions to UG courses such as BA, B.Sc, and B.Com are based on marks secured in the qualifying examination. Calcutta University conducts its entrance examination for admission to PG courses including B.Ed, BALLB, LLM, etc. Calcutta University offers admission to BTech, MBA, MCA, and MTech based on WBJEE/JEE Main, CAT/MAT/XMAT/JEMAT, WB-JECA, and GATE scores respectively. The final selection for all courses is done through a counselling process conducted by the university and the seats are allocated based on scores obtained in the entrance examination.

Calcutta University campus is equipped with all the modern facilities such as a fully Wi-Fi campus, library, hostels, and cafeterias.
- Library: Calcutta University has a total collection of more than 10 lakh books and 200000 volumes of bound journals. The university contains more than 20 departmental libraries. The department of law library holds more than 85000 books in hard copy.

Can I take journalism in M.A without any entrance exam in Calcutta University?
No, You cannot take M.A. in Journalism at Calcutta University without an Entrance Examination. Admission is through counseling based on the marks obtained in Calcutta University Entrance Exam.
The eligibility criteria for MA in Journalism at Calcutta University are as follows
- Students have to qualify for Graduation with a minimum of 50% marks from a recognized college or university.
- 5% relaxation is given to those students belonging to the Reserved Category
- Students from any stream can apply
- No receptacle is accepted in any subject. Students should be fully qualified in every subject.
