You can expect to get at any of the branches of the Heritage Institute of Technology if your GMR is 42,769 and you are in the ST category.
If you have a domicile in West Bengal, you may be eligible for admission to all branches offered by the Heritage Institute of Technology. However, if you are an outsider (i.e., a student from any state other than West Bengal) who appeared for the WBJEE exam, you may be considered a general category candidate, and the reservation quota may not apply to you.
The cutoff varies from year to year. It is highlighted in the following data:
Course | General | SC | ST | TFW |
Computer Science Engineering | 349-2877 | 6740 | 8229 | 1095-3214 |

Biotechnology | 4928-12233 | 13245 | - | 7218-8923 |
Cutoffs also depend on the streams you want to pursue.
Here are the cutoff trends for CSE at Heritage Institute of Technology.
Year | Cutoff by rank (WBJEE) |
2019 | 2877 |
2020 | 2532 |
2021 | 2438 |
One of my friends got admission to CSE at Heritage in 2017. He got something like 72 to 74 marks in WBJEE 2017 and he got a rank of 5975.
So, scoring 80 to 84 marks will be enough for you to get the CSE branch of the Heritage Institute of Technology. But the cutoff marks always depend on the toughness of the paper and the quality of the batch appearing for WBJEE.
You can check the complete merit list on site for more details.
The only deciding factor whether you will get a seat at Heritage Institute of Technology through WBJEE solely depends on your score JEE Mains scorecard.
Here is the first round cut-off 2021 for Heritage Institute of Technology.

This should give you an idea about the cutoff required at the Heritage Institute of Technology.
Before making a decision on what college you want to get admitted to there are some factors that must be kept in mind: the quality of academics and faculty, extra-curricular activities, the record of recent placements.
There are far better options such as IEM and Techno India. Heritage is an overhyped institute. Also, look for institutes that are not in Kolkata if you want better exposure.
The previous year's TFW cut-off ranks for Heritage Institute of Technology are listed below.
Course | TFW cut-off Rank |
Chemical Engineering | 15095-16758 |
Computer Science Engineering | - |
Applied Electronics and Instrumentation | 10285-16513 |
Electrical Engineering | 5957-7002 |
Electronics & Communication Engineering | 3545-7124 |
Mechanical Engineering | 8254-8974 |
Civil Engineering | - |
As per the above table, you can hold any stream of your interest. In any case, if you fail to obtain the preferred stream, you can work hard during the first two semesters and change to your choice of stream. For branch change, you will need to have grades above 8.5.
There are three ways you can get admission to the Heritage Institute of Technology. Which are as follows.
One of my friends got admission to HIT in Mechanical Engineering through JEE Mains. His rank was 58k, and he was almost the last candidate for JEE Mains quota.
With a rank of 75k, you may get branches like Biotechnology but you are not likely to get into branches like CSE.
So, wait for the WBJEE counseling to begin. HIT gives more admission through WBJEE.
It will be hard to get any branch at Heritage Institute of Technology with a rank of 80176 in WBJEE. Here are the 2021 cutoff trends for Heritage.
Branch | WBJEE Cutoff |
Electronics & Communication Engineering | 7752 |
Computer Science & Engineering | 3214 |
Biotechnology | 14684 |
Chemical Engineering | 20546 |
Mechanical Engineering | 23694 |
Civil Engineering | 19809 |
Electrical Engineering | 10192 |
Applied Electronics & Instrumentation Engineering | 13759 |
Information Technology | 4090 |
Computer Science & Business System | 7688 |
CSE (AI & Machine Learning) | 4597 |
CSE (Data Science) | 5331 |
It’s better if you start your preparation for next year by dropping a year. Aim for a rank below 10000. One of my friends took a year drop last year and jumped from 77000 ranks to below 8000. If he can do it, you can also do it. It is not impossible.
However, if you do not want to take a drop and anyhow want to take admission at Heritage then there is a management quota to help you out.
With your rank, it might be not possible to get CSE at the Heritage Institute of Technology. WBJEE Cut off for 2021 closed at 3198 for All-India Quota. Except for CSE, you can get any other branch at HIT or you can wait for further rounds.
Before opting for Heritage, you must know that the fee structure is quite high at the institute. Even if you are financially stable, it might not be a good idea to go there. The academic curriculum is outdated and the environment is not appropriate for engineering.
You will see rich kids joining the college, fashion parades, luxurious cars and etc. There is nothing as such engineering at HIT but only fun. This lavishness is all thriving in the city where there are majorly people who are striving for a job being in their thirties only.
Both the choices are decent so you can choose either. But, as I don't know exactly which branch of DSU are you asking about; but if you are talking about DSU (Kumar swami layout) then go for it; and if not NHCE is better.
And let me clear that, 100% placements mean there are no specifications of package you will be given. You might get a company to work with a 1 LPA salary or a 12 LPA salary depends on your caliber and knowledge.
