  • The program is focused on innovative research geared towards developing new technologies and practices that ensure one has clean air to breathe, clean water to drink, clean soil to grow crops and clean energy to sustain society. The goal is to reduce the impact of society on the environment.
  • The programs are offered through the Ottawa-Carleton Institute for Environmental Engineering which allows the graduate students to take courses at both Carleton and the University of Ottawa.
  • The specialization of the program includes:
    • Air Pollution
    • Management of Solid and Hazardous Waste
    • Water Resources and Groundwater Management
    • Water and Waste Water Processing and Treatment
    • Environmental Impact Assessment, Sustainability and Climate Change
    • Green Buildings
    • Master’s student can elect to take a Collaborative Specialization in Climate Change
  • In addition to the courses associated with the individual areas, students will be encouraged to select courses from fundamental areas such as chemistry, numerical modelling, and applied statistics.
  • Master's candidates transferring from another university must take at least half their courses at the Institute.

Eligibility & Entry Requirement

Academic Eligibility:

  • Students must have a 4-year bachelor’s degree in a related field from a recognized institution.
  • A GPA of at least 3.0/4.33 (B grade) which is the equivalent of 8.0/12 on Carleton’s scale is required to be eligible for the program.

Indian Student Eligibility:

Indian students are eligible to apply if they meet one of the following eligibility criteria:

  • Completed both a Bachelor’s (3 years) degree and a Master’s degree.
  • Or, completed a Bachelor’s degree requiring 4 years of study (e.g., B.Pharm., M.B.B.S, or B.Arch).
  • Or, obtain a first-class division (75% or above, Distinction or Outstanding).
  • Or, complete 3-year UG from an institution accredited by either AACSB, EQUIS, or AMBA.

Along with the minimum eligibility requirements, international students hailing from non-English speaking countries need to prove English proficiency through IELTS/TOEFL/any equivalent test.
