Dalhousie 101 - A mix between Arts and Sciences

C
8.0 /10

I received the most money in scholarships at Dalhousie. I was also interested in the medical science program which I got accepted to. It was close to home so I would still be close to my family which was a plus.

Course Curriculum :

The medical science program was very hard and the curriculum forced us to take some of the worst classes at dal. I switched to neuroscience and this program has been a lot better. The courses are interesting and not too hard. Theatre courses are very fun and engaging.

Internship :

Theatre provides a half semester and a year-long semester class in which you can intern at local theatres. I have not taken either of the courses but some of my friends have. Some internships pay for the tuition fee to take the course, some don't pay at all and some pay hourly.

Fees :

Each class runs around $1000 a class with art classes being slightly less than science class. Typically my science classes have labs which makes them more expensive.

Scholarship :

I received renewable entrance scholarships and bursaries of which I need to maintain an A- average to renew over my four years.

Examination Structure :

Many of the neuroscience exams are multiple choice and true or false due to the large class sizes (100-200+). In upper years (3rd and 4th) I have started to have some short answer questions on my exam as well as some fill in the blank. Theatre classes don't all have exams; mainly essays and hands-on work. My theatre class that did have exams had short answer questions, picture identification questions, and essay questions.

Faculty :

The neuroscience professors are very nice and genuinely care about the well being and success of their students. The professors also organize a lot of extra activities such as guest speakers and journal clubs to engage the students in. The theatre profs are some of the nicest I have ever had and gone above and beyond to make university enjoyable.
