It is one of the best universities in terms of infrastructure and faculties when it comes to mechanical engineering. They have tons of research opportunities and provide ample new technologies for curious minds. This is the reason for choosing Carleton University.

Course Curriculum

9

The course curriculum is more inclined toward academia and more core applications than the current industry needs. Now, this may not be a bad thing, but it definitely requires you to have multiple skillsets if you are out on a job hunt. Just studies won't cut it out.

Exams

My scores: IELTS 8; Class minimum required 7; No other exam required except IELTS but you can give GRE for scholarship purposes.(Does not depend on this but may be helpful)

Placement

8

For mechanical engineering, if you lack other skill sets, any degree is practically useless. With the advent of information technology, more and more jobs are created in that sector over the world and we require to be updated with that too. But, this program is a research haven if you are interested.

Internship

My program does not have a co-op instead, it has a summer break.

Fees

Currently it is CAD 23000 per annum

Scholarship

No, I did not get any type of scholarship

Faculty

9

Most faculties are approachable, genuine, and helpful. They have immense knowledge in their respective fields and have a knack for teaching. The student-to-professor ratio is usually 1:15, but this may depend on course difficulty as easier courses have more students. For privacy reasons, I won't be naming my professor but my faculty from advanced dynamics has left a deep impact on me.

Campus Life

The campus has Wi-Fi, a great library, many sports stadiums, and gymnasiums. It has great many research labs devoted to several topics of engineering. The campus is great and fun to be at. There are multiple food places to eat when tired, quiet study session rooms, computers to use at your disposal, and much more.

Hostel

6

I currently live with 5 other students as rent is very steep here. The option of sharing is most affordable for an average student but the university has campus accommodation too where you can apply but costs you the same as the program fees for a year. The average rental with all utilities varies from CAD 250 to CAD 500. There are many factors responsible for costly accommodation but this is an affordable range for anyone. This is the usual price based on sharing of the room. Some personal rooms are cheaper (depending on the living area) but most of them are costly to live alone.
