Cognitive science at Carleton University

A
9.8 /10

I learned about this college through word of mouth from older friends who went there. The admission process was very easy (like most other Ontario universities done through OUAC). I applied to three other universities (Toronto, Laurentian, and Windsor). I choose this university because when touring the school I realized how nice the campus was- everything is conveniently together in one campus and there is a very warm sense of community there. The students are kind and the profs care about students. There is always help for anything you are experiencing. Ottawa itself provides the capital city advantage with lots of volunteer and job opportunities as well as delicious restaurants, lots of services, and tourism. I was an A student in grade 12.

Course Curriculum :

It is a wonderful curriculum that is specialized yet encompasses many fields staying true to the interdisciplinary nature of cognitive science. Classes range from psychology linguistics neuroscience artificial intelligence and much more

Exams :

This is the best cognitive science program in the country. students are able to start specializing in various feels like linguistics computer science psychology and neuroscience in their first year. It is a small program and in the fourth year of the undergraduate degree, all cognitive science classes are capped at 30 students allowing for a great learning environment and individualized attention to each student. Only English and math in grade 12 are required to enter the program

Placement :

There are many companies that allow for placements at Carleton University even long-distance ones that apply to all programs. Each job has different requirements and a different procedure but academic advising and co-op opportunities are available for help and an appointment can be requested via email or in-person to go through appropriate opportunities

Internship :

Internships are available through individual props if you would like to get one of these positions all you have to do is get to know a professor and inquire about opportunities in their lab each prof will have different procedures. There are also many campus jobs that are posted online through Carlton Central where you can submit a resume to see if you are an appropriate fit. Average working hours depend on the job and eligibility as well.

Fees :

There are many scholarships awarded for students according to grades but they're also many scholarships for students in need or in a tight financial situation as well as international applicants which can be further discussed with financial aid offices located on campus. Tuition is paid by semester and differs for each student

Examination Structure :

Like most universities in Canada, there is an exam after each course every semester Students will take approximately five courses and most exams last three hours and are written in person unless you are a distant student. Each exam is different according to the professor's teaching style but most are short answer multiple-choice or long-answer essay questions.

Faculty :

The program is the largest Ford's undergraduate community yet there are many master's students and Ph.D. students. The faculty-student ratio is appropriate for the size of the program and allows for mentoring and assisting whenever needed. The faculty overall is amazing. So supportive and kind
