  • Students in the Honours Bachelor of Science – Nursing Program are required by host agencies to provide a current criminal record check and vulnerable sector check from a recognized police service before they are permitted to start their clinical/practicum or work placement.

Eligibility & Entry Requirement

Academic Requirements:

  • Students have to complete the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent with an average of 80% in these programs:
    • Grade 12 (U) English,
    • Grade 12 (U) Biology,
    • Grade 12 (U) Chemistry OR Grade 12 (U) Physics
    • Grade 12 (U) Mathematics
    • 2 credits at the Grade 12 U or M level
  • Mature students may also be considered for admission and must meet subject prerequisites prior to registration with a minimum grade of 70% in the prerequisite courses and an overall average of 75%.
  • Students from the Pre-health Sciences Pathway to Advanced Diplomas and Degrees (PHPA) program (available from Georgian College) must also be graduates of that program.

Others:

Non-secondary school students must also meet the following criteria:

  • Be 21 years or older by December 31 of the year of admission
  • Must not have been enrolled in a formal education program for a minimum of two years if applying as a mature student. A recent resume and cover letter are required.
  • Must have no recent unfavorable academic performance.

Indian students are eligible to apply if they have any one of the following certificates:

  • All-India Senior School Certificate (AISSCE)
  • Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC)
  • Indian School Certificate (ISC)
  • Intermediate Examination Certificate
  • Pre-University Examination Certificate
  • Diploma / Degree certificate Mark sheets for each year of study.

Along with the minimum eligibility requirements, international students hailing from non-English speaking countries need to prove English proficiency through IELTS/TOEFL/PTE/any equivalent test to get admission to this program.

Following are the required documents:

  • Application form: All international student applications must be submitted through the International Application System (IAS), where program availability is located.
  • CV/Resume: Outline of academic achievements and/or awards, publications, relevant work, and/or volunteer experience.
  • Academic Documents: Students need to show proof of graduation, subjects are taken and grades received.
  • Transcript: Students must submit the official marks statements or transcripts that are provided by the college.
  • Clinical and field placement forms: Students have to submit documents required prior to the start of registration in order to ensure students' placement and to allow participation in clinical and field placement facilities.
  • ELP Scores: Students have to submit original or certified copies of English language proficiency test scores like IELTS, TOEFL, or other test scores.

Career and Placement after Course

  • A Registered Nurse is a valued member of the health care team. Graduates provide nursing care in settings such as hospitals, nursing homes, homes for the aged, family health teams, community centers, clinics, industry, and public health agencies.
  • If a student chooses to work in a specialized area students may need additional education or work experience.
  • In order to provide quality practicum placements, students are placed in a variety of agencies in the region serviced by the campus.
  • Students are required to provide their own transportation to practicum placements. Placements may stretch up to 6, 10 or 12 hour days and may include weekends and evenings starting as early as 0600.

I opted for this college because it offered a collaborative program that allowed me to attend school close to home and save money while still getting the same education I would have gotten if I had gone to University. I originally attended the college for a collaborative Kinesiology program but switched to the collaborative Nursing program and am very satisfied with my program switch.

Georgian College accepts PTE Academic as one of the ELP tests required for international admissions. The minimum PTE Academic score requirement for Graduate Certificate admission is 61.

Georgian College offers an Advanced Diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology program. Students seeking admission in this program must have Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent with English and Mathematics. International students must have a valid ELP test score as well.

Yes, the program requires IELTS or any other equivalent English language proficiency test score for admission. The language of instruction at Georgian College is English. In addition to the academic admission requirements, if English is not your first language and/ or you are coming from a country where English is not an official language, you must provide proof of language proficiency.
