I got a scholarship worth $40,000 paid over the course of 3 years (the length of my course. Also, the course guarantees a job with industry partners such as Deloitte and Ernst & Young on completion of the course.
Course Curriculum
The curriculum is all relevant as it's picked by industry sponsors. In the first year, it isn't very flexible. However, after the first year, you are given the option to branch out into majors and minors such as computer science.
Exams
I took the Victorian certificate of education (VCE). Also, I'm applying for the course that I'm on I took an interview.
Placement
I get 2x5 month placements at industry sponsors of my scholarship. The placements are in the 2nd semester of the 2nd year and the first semester of the 3rd and final year. Companies include NAB, Ernst and Young, Pitcher partners, Melbourne Water, etc.
Internship
My course is an outlier, I get 2x5 month placements at industry sponsors of my scholarship. The placements are in the 2nd semester of the 2nd year and the first semester of the 3rd and final year. Because of this, I am yet to undertake a placement.
Events
The uni bar celebrates all milestones, and the Swinburne student union celebrates all major holidays. The one downside is that Swinburne doesn't have a break over labor day, which is somewhat ironic.
Fees
The two types of fees are HECS/HELP loans paid by the government. And the student's amenities fee which is about $300 a year.
Scholarship
Yes, the scholarship was based on an interview process and my ATAR as provided by the Victorian tertiary administration commission (VTAC).
Examination Structure
In the first year, only one subject I take (introduction to accounting) includes an exam. I take 4 subjects. However, in subsequent years I imagine that the exam structure will be a lot more 'full-on' I'm also examined on the subject I have to undertake during 'holiday periods'.
Faculty
The faculty is great. It's the faculty of business and law. However, it also includes information technology among other things. The lecturers, as well as other staff, are well equipped to manage the cohort.
Hostel
I live close enough to the college that I don't have to live on campus. This, my fees for a living are nil. From experience on campus, accommodation is about $400 a week, due to high housing prices in Melbourne.
