Field of Study:
- Ph.D. candidates in chemical engineering are required to complete a research dissertation of significant depth and creativity.
- Students are also asked to complete a program of course work in order to both deepen their technical expertise in chemical engineering plus acquire the knowledge outside of chemical engineering necessary for successful completion of their dissertation research.
- Chemical engineering electives and core courses also broaden the student's technical expertise in chemical engineering.
- Each course taken is required to be part of the student's plan of study approved by the research advisor, department chair and dean of the Graduate School.
Each doctoral student is required to complete 30 credit hours of 6000, 7000 or 8000 level letter graded (A, B, C) course work plus an additional thirty (30) credit hours of the sum of the following: 6000, 7000 or 8000 level courses, S-U graded courses (e.g. seminar, research orientation, directed reading, independent study), research and dissertation credit hours.( Obtainng a B or better in these core courses serves as the PhD qualifying exam. )

PhD researchers are eligible for fellowships and assistantships, which include full tuition waiver and a monthly stipend

Required Document List
- Higher Secondary School Certificate - The certificate provided by the education board after completion of the Higher secondary education.
- Statement of marks - The marks statement provided by the education board.
- Official Transcripts – Applicants who are not graduating until later in the year should send current transcripts along with mid-term grades.
- Letter of Recommendations – A minimum of three letters of recommendation are required from former professors and/or supervisors
- Statement of Purpose - This is an essay or any written statement written by the student while applying.
- English Language Requirement - This shows the test score of English Proficiency Exams such as IELTS, TOEFL, PTE, etc.

- International Student and Scholar Services will process an I-20 or DS-2019 (your U.S. DHS Certificates of Eligibility) needed for visa applications after you have been formally admitted to Auburn.
- For undergraduate students ISSS normally receives and processes the admissions paperwork needed to create these documents approximately a week after you have received your admission notification.
- For graduate students, this occurs approximately two weeks after you have been fully accepted by the Graduate School.
