Since it was started in 1976, the Interdisciplinary Program in Applied Mathematics at the University of Arizona has grown in size and stature and is now a highly regarded interdisciplinary graduate program, both nationally and internationally. The great strength of the Program lies in its large body of distinguished faculty who come from many different academic disciplines in the mathematical, physical, biological, and engineering sciences.

The Applied Mathematics Program is an interdisciplinary research and teaching program whose faculty come from over fifteen academic departments in the Colleges of Science, Engineering and Mines, and Medicine. The Program, which is ranked as one of the top Applied Mathematics programs in the country, provides an environment for studies leading to Ph.D. degree in which dissertation topics are drawn from many areas of the physical, biological, and engineering sciences where mathematics and modeling play a fundamental role.
The goal of the Program is to produce active and creative researchers who will work at the forefront of both their application area and the mathematics relevant to that application.
The course work leading to the degree is flexible and students are encouraged to begin supervised research projects at an early stage.The Program sponsors a wide range of activities including, seminars, colloquia, special lecture series, research tutorial groups, a multidisciplinary biomathematics program, and an experimental training laboratory.

Eligibility & Entry Requirement
- Minimum undergraduate or graduate GPA of 3.25
- (2) GRE General Exam scores: Applicants’ scores are expected to be in the top 25 percentile, particularly for the Quantitative portion.
- (3) 3 letters of recommendation

- (5) International applicants: minimum TOEFL internet-based score of 79 or IELTS test score of 7.
