The M.A.T. program is designed for those without formal training in the field of education who wish to enter the teaching profession. It is well suited to recent graduates and to those seeking to change careers. Two tracks are available: general education and special education.

MAT Mission Statement

The mission for the Master of Arts in Teaching Program at Towson University is to prepare outstanding teachers through a?graduate level preparation program that ensures active learning occurs in diverse and inclusive educational environments by:

Eligibility & Entry Requirement

Academic Requirements:

  • Applicant must have completed bachelors degree from an accredited university
  • Submit official transcripts of all previous education completed
  • Official transcripts must be evaluated course by course by an accredited agency
  • Applicants must have a GPA of 3.0 or equivalent on a scale of 4.0
  • Applicant must have background with young children
  • Applicant must have a teaching certification or three years of professional experience in teaching
  • Submit English Language Proficiency test scores

English Language Requirements:

  • TOEFL: minimum 70 in iBT with subscores of 17
  • IELTS: minimum 6.0
  • Duolingo: minimum 105
  • PTE: minimum 49
