The Department of is a community of active scholars and writers dedicated to forming a deeper sense of ourselves and our world.

We celebrate the beauty of words, the power of language, and the importance of creating and carefully understanding all forms of communication.

We embrace the Catholic definition of literature, which includes poetry, fiction, nonfiction, multimodal composition and film. We also value well-crafted arguments, sophisticated analyses, elegant writing, and thoughtful engagement with research.

Learning in our department goes beyond the classroom with opportunities to write for The Bulletin and other campus publications, tutoring in the Writing Center, and presenting work at conferences.?

The graduates of this?English program at Gonzaga University?have pursued careers in writing, teaching, law, editing, publishing and the technology sector.
