Gonzaga's Art Department allows students to investigate a variety of visual experiences through a study of both the studio arts and art history and offers a Bachelor of Arts in Art. Studio courses allow the student to explore the creative processes involved in the production of original works. Art appreciation, Art survey and Art history coursework emphasizes the role of the artistin society as well as developing a greater sense of historical context.
The Art major will:
- Effectively discuss and demonstrate the elements of design.
- Demonstrate successful use of traditional basic drawing techniques.
- Demonstrate competency in the proper use of studio equipment.
- Be fully aware of safe use of all departmental chemistry, in ceramics, printmaking and painting.
- Fully discuss and demonstrate all of the traditional forming methods common to ceramics.
- Fully demonstrate one or more techniques common to the printmaker's art.
- Be able to discuss and demonstrate the techniques of oil painting.
- Be able to discuss and demonstrate the traditional, western techniques of both linear and atmospheric perspective.
- Show a competent, fundamental understanding of art history from prehistory to the present day.
- Produce a competent body of work in one or more studio areas.

Academic Requirements:
- Applicants must submit official transcripts of high school and other education attended
- Applicants must have earned a high school diploma with minimum GPA of 3.2 or equivalent in a coursework that has led to high school diploma
