Field of Study:
- The PhD degree require a minimum of 23 semester hours of didactic coursework, which includes both core and elective courses.
- These courses are selected in consultation with the Research Advisor, Advisory Committee, and the Department's Graduate Program Director.
- Each student is also expected to participate in the Department's seminar program where both literature and research seminars are delivered to students and faculty on a weekly basis during the semester.

Eligibility & Entry Requirement
Student must hold at least a bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college, or be currently enrolled in an undergraduate/first-professional degree program at the University and be fluent in both spoken and written English.
Additionally, the following classes are prerequisites for admission into the biochemistry program. Each student must present transfer credit, earn advanced placement credit by examination (the Qualifying Exams) or obtain credit in the following:
- Calculus (2 semesters)
- Genetics (1 semester)
- Analytical Chemistry (1 semester)
- Literature of Chemistry (1 semester)
- English Composition (1 semester)
- Biochemistry (2 semesters)
- Biochemistry Laboratory (1 semester)
- Physical Chemistry (1 semester)
- Cell Biology or Advanced Biochemistry (1 semester)
- Organic Chemistry with laboratory (2 semesters)
Required Examinations
- The GRE is required.
- Students must either pass the following entrance exams: Analytical Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Physical, Chemistry, and Biochemistry OR students may opt to take one or all of these courses at the undergraduate level at USciences, as assigned by Dr. Mckee, and earn a “B-” or better.
- American Chemical Society Entrance Examinations must be scheduled prior to the start of the first semester and are used to determine the student’s level of understanding from undergraduate courses. The best way to prepare for the exams is to review your undergraduate course materials. The passing percentile for the examinations is 50%, and students must successfully complete each exam to remain in the Biochemistry program.
