Field of Study:
$33,552/Yr
During your time here, you work through a curriculum centered on the principles of Accounting, plus courses in the arts, humanities, sciences, communications, and other areas of business so you can have the broad educational background you need in today's business world. We cover the traditional fields of auditing, income tax, managerial accounting, and not-for-profit accounting, plus new and emerging specialized fields like fraud examination and systems analysis.
Our graduates are recruited to regional and international accounting firms, corporations, banking and financial institutions, and the Internal Revenue Service, among others. After graduating, you will need only 25 additional hours of study to meet the 150 hours required to sit for the Louisiana State Board of Certified Public Accountants exam. You also have the educational prerequisites to sit for the Certified Management accounting Exam and the Certified Internal Auditor Exam.
The National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA) has ranked the Department of Accounting at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette as one of the top programs in the country, based on student performance on the CPA examination. Among large accounting programs (those with 60 or more candidates taking the exam), UL Lafayette graduates ranked 21st nationally for the 2011 testing period. Overall, NASBA?s recently released 2011 Uniform CPA Examination found UL Lafayette?s pass rate for first time exam candidates ranked 39th nationally.
Our faculty members' wealth of experiences cover academia, industry, and public accounting. They bring scholarly research and a professional environment to the department, and they work to relay their knowledge to you. Of our nine faculty members, six hold doctorates in account and seven are CPAs.
