Doctor of Philososphy [Ph.D] (Biostatistics)
Field of Study:
$43,128/Yr
The Interdisciplinary PhD program in Biostatistics is a joint venture between the Department of Statistics and the Division of Biostatistics in the College of Public Health. Students in this program choose between one of two specializations:
- Methodology
- Public Health
All students are admitted to the joint program and make a specialization selection after pasing the Qualifier 1 Exam after one year. The first two years of coursework in both specializations are similar and students in both programs are awarded an MS degree in statistics en route to the PhD.
The program's biostatistics faculty collaborate closely with researchers across the campus including members of the Colleges of Medicine, Pharmacy, Nursing, and Dentistry, as well as the James Comprehensive Cancer Center. They have longstanding and ongoing collaborative research projects with researchers at the NSF-funded Mathematical Biosciences Institute. They are also involved in collaborative research with faculty from the Environmental Sciences and the Biological Sciences on campus, and the Nationwide Children’s Hospital researchers in downtown Columbus. These collaborations provide students with numerous opportunities to work as research assistants and due to our large student population at the undergraduate and graduate levels (the total enrollment in 2015 was 65,184), we also offer many teaching assistantships. The University provides fellowships for outstanding students. Located in the state capital Columbus with a metropolitan area population of over 2 million, OSU offers excellent opportunities for study as well as recreation.
