The Ohio State University Department of Sociology is nationally acclaimed in terms of faculty research and graduate and undergraduate programs. Our Ph.D. program is ranked 17th in the nation by U.S. News and World Report (2017). Our undergraduate program is one of the largest on campus, with about 1,000 Sociology, Criminology and Criminal Justice Studies, and Public Health Sociology majors. Our faculty members have research expertise in diverse areas with strengths in stratification and inequality, community and urban sociology, criminology, population and health, education, family, occupations and work and political sociology. Among 118 National Research Council-ranked sociology programs nationwide, we are in the top 10 percent in terms of publications per faculty and percent of faculty with grants.
