More than 200 graduate students from across the United States and around the world are currently pursuing degrees within the department. Many students and faculty members also participate in the programs and activities of other departments and interdisciplinary centers. The university is internationally renowned for its research facilities and its support services. Our placement rate for PhDs is strong: 90 percent of our graduates in 2004-2007 found employment. That's up from 69 percent ten years ago--a remarkable feat given a very competitive job market.
Becoming a historian is one path history majors can take. What people sometimes don't realize is that many other careers exist for those who study history. Teachers, archivists, librarians, lawyers, politicians, writers and other careers are often chosen. The skills acquired by history majors prepare them for a variety of career possibilities.
Eligibility & Entry Requirement
Academic Requirements:
- A bachelor degree in closely related field
- Submit all the official transcripts to the graduate school
- A minimum of 3.0 GPA is required on a scale of 4.0 in undergraduate and graduate courses
- A statement of Intent
- Writing Samples
- Current Resume
- Three letters of recommendation
English Proficiency Requirements:
TOEFL: 79 minimum in IBT; 550 in PBT
IELTS: 7.0
