- Thirty-two (32) credits of coursework are required. For a nonresearch MA, a library review paper covering a topic agreed upon with the student’s advisor is required. The paper must be approved by the student’s MA thesis advisory committee.
- For a research MA, the student must submit and orally defend a thesis describing original research performed by the student. The written thesis and oral presentation must be approved by the student’s MA thesis advisory committee, with membership approved by the Graduate Education Committee of the Graduate Program for Neuroscience (GPN).
- The goal for the majority of students will be to complete core requirements and to choose the laboratory for their MA thesis research during the first semester. Course requirements for elective study will most likely be completed by the end of the second year. All efforts are made to tailor the training program to the individual goals of the student taking into account their previous training experiences either at the undergraduate or master’s level. Graduate Program for Neuroscience committees will continually evaluate, expand, and redesign core coursework and choices of advanced electives in order to offer students the best curriculum available across the University.
