SUNY Buffalo State has been offering graduate degree programs since 1945. Twenty-two areas of specialization in the master's of science in education are offered—more choices in graduate education study than any other SUNY school. While teacher education remains a tradition, specialized graduate degree programs in art conservation, creative studies (courses on campus and online), adult education (program online), applied economics, and higher education student affairs administration are unique to SUNY.

Buffalo State's unique graduate programs combine current theory with advanced practical training for today's workplace.

Applied programs include music education (Mus.M), great lakes ecosystem science, public and nonprofit management (MPA), museum studies, professional applied and computational mathematics, science education, and students with disabilities 7-12 generalist and students with disabilities 7-12 subject extensions offer exceptional opportunities for professional advancement.

Other notable graduate degree programs include criminal justice, industrial technology, applied economics, biology, English, history, and multidisciplinary studies.


Eligibility & Entry Requirement

Academic Requirements:

  • Applicants must have completed bachelors degree from an accredited university
  • Submit official transcripts of all previous education completed
  • Official transcripts must complete a course by course evaluation from an accredited agency
  • Applicants should have minimum GPA of 2.5 or equivalent on a scale of 4.0
  • Submit GRE or GMAT scores
  • Submit English Language Proficiency test scores

English Language Requirements:

  • TOEFL: minimum score of 79 in iBT; 550 in PBT
  • IELTS; minimum score of 6.0
  • Duolingo: minimum score of 100
