Program Mission
The Bachelor of Arts in Psychology degree provides students with a broad background in psychology, helping students understand themselves and others. In addition, students acquire a wide range of interpersonal skills, as well as develop their expertise in reading, writing, conducting research, and critical thinking.?
This gives students an advantage in a competitive job market as these versatile skills are highly valued by employers. Graduates of the Psychology program can obtain jobs in a wide range of settings, including child care, social service agencies, drug treatment centers, youth and adult residential care centers, crisis centers, senior citizen centers, state and local agencies serving families and children, research, or can pursue advanced degrees in Psychology or related fields.??
Program Learning Outcomes
This program will provide students with the opportunity to develop the following competencies:
- Describe the development of children, adolescents and adults over the course of a lifespan, including their cognitive, emotional, psychological, social, and physical development within a socio-cultural context.
- Demonstrate an understanding of psychological theory.
- Demonstrate an understanding of psychological research by having learned how to identify, conduct, and critically evaluate quantitative and qualitative studies used throughout the psychological studies.
- Demonstrate familiarity with issues of ethical principles in psychology.
- Demonstrate an awareness of multicultural issues such as race, culture, ethnicity, gender, social economic status, sexual orientation, religion, and spirituality, and its impact on the individual.
- Discuss the purposes, history, and contributions of psychology.
