KTU: 5 Answered Questions

Which university is the best, CUSAT or KTU?

Anil Tigga
Tridha SahaB.Tech Engineering & Mechanical Engineering, APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University (2019)

CUSAT Kochi is better than KTU. Being older, it is more recognized.

  • It is more reputed internationally. CUSAT brand name can help you a lot while applying for higher studies overseas.
  • Cochin University of Science and Technology courses are well-structured. The syllabus followed is tougher compared to KTU. So, a degree from CUSAT is more valued.
  • KTU is a technological university. It offers courses in this domain only. While CUSAT offers courses from various disciplines such as Arts, Law, etc.
  • In terms of placement, CUSAT is better. During the 2020 placement drive, the average and highest CTC received by the students was INR 4.7 LPA and INR 15 LPA.

These are the factors that make CUSAT a better option.

Is Kerala technological university better than CUSAT?

Debdeep Majumder
Udit MundraB.Tech from Cochin University Of Science and Technology (2011)

In my opinion, CUSAT is much better than KTU and there are multiple reasons why. One of the only reasons why KTU could be better than CUSAT is the fact that results are released within a month of conducting exams. So if you have deadlines coming up or are applying somewhere, you will not have to wait too long. CUSAT does not follow this scheme. Although recently, they have changed this scheme.

Additionally, the choice between these two colleges will heavily depend on the branch you are planning on applying to. As you know, every place will have its own pros and cons. The points below should probably help you gain some insight:

  • KTU and CUSAT are state universities. Moreover, they are both UGC and AICTE approved institutes. A plus point with CUSAT is that it has been accredited with NAAC grade A.
  •  CUSAT also has a relatively better and robust syllabus as compared to KTU. From my knowledge, it is tougher than NITs and possibly nearly equivalent to the syllabus taught in BITs and IITs.

If you want to compare, you should take a look at the first-year syllabus taught at both places.

  • CUSAT also has better faculty. Most of them hold a Ph.D. or are highly experienced individuals in their field of study.
  • Moreover, CUSAT is ranked among the top 1000 universities in the world whereas NITs themselves are not on the list.
  • If you are concerned about placements, you don’t need to worry about them. The highest package offered at CUSAT is INR 15 LPA with an average package of INR 4.7 LPA.
  • Major recruiters at the college include Cisco, L&T, and TCS whereas when it comes to KTU most students are of the opinion that only 30% of them have been placed.
  • Another major plus point is that the Engineering branch has been accredited under tier 1 colleges by NBA.
  • Lastly, the campus also plays a pivotal role when it comes to choosing between the two. My friends would describe it as the dream campus with exciting opportunities.

From this, my advice to you would be to definitely consider CUSAT over KTU for your studies. Your career will be set and you will have a plethora of opportunities open for you.

Is there any opportunities for doing internship for KTU (APJ Abdul Kalam technological university) students?

Pranjal Singhal
Rita AgarwalB.Tech Engineering & Mechanical Engineering, APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University (2019)

The answer is yes, rather a big yes. There are mainly opportunities for summer training courses as well as internships under KTU.

Understand the internship's actual meaning

  • You can continue an internship at the time of semester breaks.
  • The faculties will help you to find out nearby worksites and companies so that you could utilize the time of semester break.
  • The industries can be small but the attachment of the student is needed for their future career perspectives.

When to do the internship

  • You get two months’ pause from the end of one semester and to begin of next semester classes.
  • In this gap, you can do their internship as per your respective subjects for summer training courses as well as internships.

Busy with Supplementary Exams

  • It should be cleared that this summer internships programs are only for that student who cleared all the subjects in semester 1.
  • However, it is seen in most of the cases that the students have papers that are lagging behind, and they cannot apply for internships. You can do it in the upcoming years.

Why you should do this internship

  • The internship program is important to complete the B.Tech degree successfully under KTU.
  • If you want to get minimum credit points of 100, then you must be involved with various extra curriculum activities like ED CLUB, NSS, Internships, Sports, Arts etc.

Where you should do their internship

  • You should join as an apprentice at any industry, related to your stream, at least for 5 days.
  • You should submit a small report related to their work to the industry officials.
  • You will also receive an industry certificate after the completion of this internship, which you can submit to the institute to earn points.

One of my friends is a student from the Mechanical Engineering stream. He conducted his internship in Kerala State Water Transport Corporation, along with Royal Enfield (Second Year Internship).
