What is the future of LLM from IIT Kharagpur? Is it better than other LLM colleges

Praver KatyalYogita VermaLLM at NLU Delhi, 2020

I will not suggest you to join RGSOIPL, IIT Kharagpur because of a number of reasons

    • RGSOIPL still has a two-year programme while most Law Schools have changed the duration of the program to one year only. Wasting an additional year is not worth it.
    • The LLM program lacks the necessary coursework and relevancy of the curriculum mainly because the administration has zero knowledge about specializations.
    • The faculty is focused on the flagship program that is LLB and hardly cares about LLM students. It also lacks the necessary skills to teach the program effectively.
    • The institution does not permit students to opt for internships during vacations rather want them to work in their sponsored projects.

I would suggest you choose premier institutes for LLM such as - BHU, AMU, DU, NLSIU, NUJS, NALSAR.

    A journey

    4.3Helpful
Now, I am in 3rd semester, and after getting into IIT the first semester the same for all the department students. Student start to study their department stuff in their 3rd semester. This course is pseudo-circuital. This course help you get placed. And you get extra time to explore many things. I think the subjects in the industrial department are real-life applicable subjects. Subjects are fun to study, and students who are interested in how the industries work all this stuff will enjoy the subject. Exams are not that hard not that too easy. If you study just 1 week before the exam, you can score average marks.

The faculty student ration is 1:30 that means its pretty good for a candidate to get his doubts cleared . All the faculties are pretty renowned and are mostly research graduates from foreign universities and the teaching method is based on school system where classes are held daily The exams are held in two phases namely midsem and endsem and generally the endsem carry half of weightage and are on a tougher side

I chose this course (mechanical engineering) because it lies within my interest in study. The faculty-student ratio in the mechanical engineering department here in IIT KGP is high, that is there are many students in one class.

I have heard about the circuital branches and their benefits during the college internships and placement processes. The students from circuital branches have more opportunities for many software companies than the non-circuital branches. That's the reason I have opted for Electrical Engineering Faculty Student ratio is 1:135 The faculty are well-educated professors and their qualifications are mainly B.Tech, M.Tech, Ph.D. etc. The teaching method is not so interesting but their depth of knowledge is incomparable. Every semester(4 months duration) we have two examinations (mid-term and end-term). The difficulty varies for different branches. Electrical Engineering is one of the toughest exams but almost all students manage to pass in every subject

This course comes under the "semi-circuital" category. There are just 72 seats in B tech plus dual degree for this course, so the student-faculty ratio is very nice. This is also considered to be a relatively "chill" branch, as there is not so much academic load, hence exams are not too tough to pass.

I chose this course because I was interested in Electronics from before. The faculty: student ratio is 1:5 so it's pretty good. The qualifications of the Professors are high and their teaching method is very innovative with innovative tutorials and worksheets. There are regular class tests and mid-semester, and end-semester exams. These exams are of decent level and should be passable if the student listens to all the classes.

Indian Mining industry is increasing its market acquisition in the global market as there are many targeted elements are getting in different parts of the country, that's why I chose it. The faculty is excellent and experienced. Most of them have done Ph.D.s in their field. and their teaching methods are also unique. in IIT KHARAGPUR. There are two terms in a year. Two-time exams and two-time class tests happen in a semester. First mid mid-semester our mid-semester happened in 18 to 26 September and the end semester in November 16 to 26. And class tests happen according to the choices of faculties.

    IIT Kharagpur: 5 Answered Questions

    View All

Why is IIT Kharagpur Electrical Engineering department so deadly? How do they differ from others' IIT Electrical Department?

Mayank BadhwarAnumita ChatterjeeStudied at Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur (IITK)

My brother had offers from IITs to choose any branch except CSE and chose Electrical Engineering in IIT KGP. To date, he does not regret his decision. There are ups and downs in every Institute; it just takes time to adapt yourself to such situations.

It is true that some professors overdo it and push you to the extreme, but if you look at this in a positive manner, it’s their pushing that eventually helps you succeed. There are many seniors who might make fun of your tiny efforts in the labs but trust me, today when they will look back, they will surely be regretting the time they wasted watching movies or series.

My brother told me that Electrical Engineering gave him so many friends and experiences that make him yearn for college life today. The labs are old-fashioned and lack much activity in contrast to a SigNet lab/ Power Systems lab.

    • Curriculum: The primary aim of the course curriculum offered in Electrical Engineering at IIT KGP is to impart to students tools and skills that will make it possible for them to excel in departments such as Electronics, Communication, Computers, Aerospace, and Energy.
    • Job prospects: An important point to note is that Electrical Engineering does not prepare you for a job but for higher education in the respective areas. Many people from the department pursue M.S. in Aerospace and Material Sciences.
    • Faculty: While many may not agree, the faculty is excellent except for a few. The cream faculty include Prof. D Das, Prof TKB, Prof S Patra, and Prof S Chattopadhyay among others. Interacting with them might change your opinion regarding the IIT KGP faculty.
    • Research: The research is obviously not at par with that conducted in CS or EC, but it surely does justice to the department itself.

I think it’s high time people clear misconceptions about Electrical Engineering and develop a positive opinion about it. We should stop running after jobs and companies and in turn let companies seek us.

What is the scope of a 5-year integrated Economics course from IIT Kharagpur?

Atul SharmaWorks at Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur (IIT KGP)

The integrated economics Course from IIT Kharagpur has a wide scope. This course comes under the umbrella of the humanities and social science department. Some of the many prospects offered by this course are

    1. Higher studies: A student who is inclined towards higher studies can opt for Masters in Economics from any prestigious college in India and abroad and can even get a PhD degree provided that he has sufficient knowledge of economics, a stable GPA and some excellent publications.
    2. Government jobs: The scope of the score spreads to the government sector as well with jobs like RBI, Indian economic service or civil services that help you serve your country. The best part about these jobs is that you can also apply for study leave and pursue higher studies on official holidays.
    3. Software developer: Unlike the general misconception that only CS, E,C, EE students can become software developers, this course too can help you become one. While it is true that the top companies like Google and Microsoft won’t let you sit for placements, you can become a software developer for average banks. Later, you can target technical giants that don’t judge employees on the basis of the branch.
    4. MBA: This is a very common combination. Many economic students target IIMs or other business schools to pursue MBA. Moreover, with a non-engineering background, you can always have an upper hand in B-school admissions.
    5. Data Analyst/Scientist: This is the most common job profile of IIT Kharagpur students who have done an economics majors. Moreover, with the increased demand for AI and machine learning, this has become one of the most appealing fields today.
    6. Finance: The integrated economy course at IIT Kharagpur has many subjects related to finance and mathematics. This makes the student suitable for finance roles and you are likely to become a quantitative analyst.
    7. Consulting/operations: Consulting and Operation roles are available to random students, irrespective of their branch.

The best part about the economics degree is that you have a lot of free time at your hand and can explore other fields, unlike engineering students who are always busy with their coursework. Moreover, if you’re not sure about any particular branch, then Economics can definitely be a good choice.
