Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Science University or TANUVAS was established in the year 1876 as the first veterinary and animal sciences university in Asia by the Government of Tamil Nadu. The institute is a state university and is ICAR approved. The University offers courses at UG, PG and Ph.D level across various disciplines to their students. Admission of candidates is done on the basis of merit from their last qualifying examination for UG courses, and for PG and Ph. D courses candidates are selected through the CET entrance exam conducted by the University. Final admission shall be done through counselling.

The minimum requirement for admission into these programs is to have minimum marks of 60% in aggregate in their last qualifying examination.
