Bharathidasan University offers Ph.D. Admissions in various disciplines for students who have completed their post graduation in Arts, Science, Management or Commerce. There are full time as well as part time Ph.D. courses in which interested candidates can apply before the last date. Selection of candidates is based on the entrance test and personal interview conducted by Bharathidasan University
Duration of full time Ph.D. is minimum 3 years and maximum 5 years and part time Ph.D. The Departmental Research Committees (DRCs) of the university handles the activities related to Ph.D. courses including the admission process. The university prohibits registration of candidates under the guideship of any relative. Along with this, SC/ST candidates get 5 % relaxation in marks in the eligibility for Ph.D. programs. Candidates can apply for both the courses online by filling up application form with a demand draft of Rs. 500. Candidates who completed their Master’s before 19-9-1991 with 50% marks or above can also apply. There are 4 sessions for admission to Ph.D. programs which are carried out in the months of January, April, July and October.
Eligibility
The eligibility for Ph.D. courses is as follows:
- The candidates interested in applying for Ph.D. in Bharathidasan University should have completed Master’s degree with minimum 50% marks or a CGPA of 5.51 in Arts/Commerce/Management/Science.
- Students who have completed graduation or post graduation from distance mode or any open University are also eligible to apply.
- Candidates who have qualified CA, CFA, ACS or ICW with a basic graduation degree can apply for Ph.D. courses as well.
- For Part time Ph.D. course, candidate must have working experience in any institute/ college/ industry/ organiztion for minimum 1 year.
- Those who have completed Post Graduation prior to 19-9-1991 with 50% marks or above can also apply.
- SC/ST candidates get 5% relaxation of marks in the prescribed minimum marks.
- Minimum 50% marks are required for physically or Visually challenged candidates.
- Teachers who are regularly employed in this University or colleges affiliated to this University can also apply for Ph.D. programs.
- Scientists or Researchers who carry out independent researches can apply for part time or full time Ph.D.
Selection Procedure
The selection of a candidate will be made on the result of the written entrance exam and the interview.
The written test will contain 75 questions objective in nature focusing on the following aspects:
- Research aptitude
- Grasp of the subject
- Intellectual ability
- General Knowledge
The interview will be of 25 marks in which candidate’s intellectual level and communication skills are judged.
Candidates who have passed M.Phil./NET/UGC/CSIR/JRF will be exempted from the written test but interview will still be compulsory.
Students will be free to select their own guides. The research guides should be presented the proposal.
Part-time Ph.D. researchers will be allotted co-guide or coordinators at their own place of work. The DRC will decide the final allocation of the Research guide.
There should not be a repetition in the researches. Also, the “Minutes of the Departmental Research Committee” will indicate the chosen guide/discipline.
The candidates who have applied for Ph.D. in Independent Research Scholars category are exempted from written test as well.

Following steps will guide the candidates to apply for Ph.D. programs:
Candidates can use the common application form to apply for both, full-time or part-time M. Phil. courses. Fill in the details carefully, especially personal details and graduation and post-graduation details.
Attach a requisition letter, a demand draft of Rs.500/- (in case of general category) and Rs.250/- (in case of candidates belonging to SC/ST) drawn in the favour of: BHARATHIDASAN UNIVERSITY payable at TIRUCHIRAPPALLI -620024 and community certificate (for SC/ST candidates) with your application.

Enclose the following documents along with your application:
- Demand Draft/ Online Receipt
- One Set of attested copies of all semester mark sheets/ Consolidated Marksheets (UG and PG)
- Community Certificate (SC/ST/ MBC/BC)
- Service Certificate (for part-time applications)
