HPU PhD admission 2022-23 through the entrance test is ongoing. Applications for the same closed on March 31, 2023. HPU will soon announce the entrance test date for PhD admissions. Candidates who have applied for the program can download their admit cards through the official website. 

PhD at HPU is offered through 22 departments. The number of seats may vary and is reserved according to the reservation criteria of the Government of India. The minimum eligibility for a Ph.D. is having a Masters or professional degree.

HPU Ph.D. Eligibility Criteria 

  • Candidates seeking admission to the PhD programme should have completed their Master's or Professional Degree with at least 55% marks in aggregate or it's equivalent 'B' grade on UGC 7-points scale or equivalent grading system followed. 
  • A relaxation of 5% marks is provided to Reserved categories.
  • A degree from a foreign institution approved and accredited by a statutory body.
  • University teachers/colleges teachers teaching to Himachal Pradesh University or disabled students can apply for direct admission against the supernumerary seat each in the department.
  • Candidates must have qualified UGC NET(JRF)/UGC-CSIR(JRF) /RAJIV GANDHI FELLOWSHIP/MAULANA AZAD FELLOWSHIP/AWARDEES OF TEACHER FELLOWSHIP /SPONSORED BY ICSSR/DBT-JRF, ICMR or any other coming under Government of India.

HPU Ph.D. Admission Process 

Admissions to the Ph.D. programs are provided based on the marks obtained by the students in the Entrance Exam conducted by the university. However, if candidates have the following test score then they are exempted from the Entrance test:

  • 20% of the marks in UGC-NET/ GATE
  • 15% of the marks in SLET
  • 10% of the marks in M.Phil/ M.Tech/ LLM

  • Visit the official website of HPU.
  • Click on UG/PG/PhD to get the list of courses.
  • Click on the 'PhD' option.
  • Read out all the instructions provided for filling the form.
  • Accept terms and conditions.
  • Fill all the personal information mentioned in the application form.
  • A Unique Registration number and password will be sent to your registered mobile number and email address.
  • Login again with your credentials provided and complete the application form.
  • Fill all the educational details and upload documents.

HPU Ph.D. Scholarships

HPU has been awarded DAAD, a German Academic Exchange Scholarship under the Sandwich Programme. Ques. Can payment for the application fees be made in the form of a demand draft?

Ans. No, payment cannot be made in the form of demand draft. It can be made only through online mode via payment gateway available on the official website.

Ques. How can a candidate know about the specializations given in the particular department?

Ans. Candidates can know about the specializations offered in the particular course via department only. On the website, information is only provided for one or two courses.

Ques. Do reserved categories get any reservation in the matter of seat availability?

Ans. Yes, candidates can get reservations in the matter of availability of seats and percentage of marks required for taking admission in the desired course of the PhD programme. Candidates can avail this by showing the requisite caste certificate needed to be produced.

Ques. Will there be no entrance examination for the admission procedure?

Ans. From this session onwards, University has started direct admission based on marks scored in the Master's Degree or equivalent. The entrance exam will be conducted if any seats are left over.
