Master of Technology or M.Tech Manufacturing Engineering is a postgraduate course which introduces students with all the aspects of manufacturing. It is a 2 year course and is divided in 4 semesters.
Manufacturing Engineering came out of the Mechanical Engineering course and established the study base in it’s own name in the Indian education system. The course teaches about the application of scientific principles to the production of various products. Admission to this course in various engineering colleges in India is done through entrance test.
The basic eligibility for admission to the course is minimum 60% in B.E/B.tech in Mechanical/production/industrial/automobile/manufacturing/metallurgical engineering. The average tuition fee for M.tech Manufacturing Engineering in government aided college ranges from 10,000 INR to 40,000 INR for two years. For private institutions, the fee may be as high as 3.5 Lacs INR.
Once the course is over, one can seek employment in various manufacturing industries. Some of the job designations which are ideal for a M.tech manufacturing postgraduate are manufacturing engineer, production engineer, maintenance engineer, etc. The initial salary in these positions varies from 30,000 INR to 40,000 INR per month.
M.tech Manufacturing Engineering is a specialized course which enable students to learn about the history and philosophy of the industry, along with material-handling skills and how to use computer applications. The course provides an in-depth knowledge of the production of various products that includes automobiles, airplanes, tractors, electronics, toys, building products, etc. The course enhances the abilities in the students of designing the products.
This course also teaches to design high quality products that are environmentally-friendly, which involves the planning process of a product to finalizing and packing the completed goods.
The students who have the abilities of being a very detailed oriented person, who works well in groups and have good analytical skills should opt this field of engineering. Also individuals who have good combination of business skills and mathematics should go for it.
This course is ideal for students who have their hands on designing a product creatively, knows how to coordinate the work and leadership qualities.
The course is of two years duration, with two semesters in each year, making it a total of 4 semesters.
