IGNOU offers an undergraduate course in Business Administration for students who are willing to pursue a career in management. The BBA course is administered by the School of Management Studies (SOMS). There are two specializations offered in BBA- Retailing (RL) and Services Management (SM). IGNOU BBARL admissions only in the July session, while BBASM admissions are conducted in both January and July sessions. The maximum duration for degree completion is six years.
BBA (SM) is offered at IGNOU in collaboration with Maharashtra Knowledge Corporation Limited (MKCL). This is a work-based innovative degree program. On completion, students are awarded with a degree and a work experience certificate. BBARL admission is on the basis of merit and interview. Admission is offered directly to physically fit students and indirectly to sponsored students with a common eligibility criteria. While BBA SM admissions are based on merit and entrance. Admissions for Category 1 Applicants:
- Students must have passed 10+2 from a recognized institution.
- Selected on the basis of merit followed by a personal interview.
- There is no age limitation for admission to this program.
Admissions for Category 2 Applicants:
- This for sponsored students who would require their company’s letterhead with an individual application.
- The students must be +2 qualified.
BBA (SM)
- Students must have passed 10+2 from a recognized institution.
- shortlisted candidates would be called to appear for an entrance test.

Evaluation System for BBA (SM)
The evaluation methodology consists of both Continuous Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) and Term End Examination (TEE).

IGNOU BBA Distance Education
Students receive a diploma certificate at the end of each year through distance education in BBARL:
- Diploma in Retail (DIR) on first year completion.
- Advanced Diploma in Retail (ADIR) in the second year.
- Degree in BBARL on completion of the third year.
Students who are in case unable to continue the program after the first or second year would still have a certificate in hand.

IGNOU BBA Assignments
Assignments constitute continuous evaluation. The marks that you secure in the assignments will be counted in your final result. As mentioned earlier, an assignment of a course carries 30% weightage. You are therefore advised to take your assignment seriously.
Non Submission of Assignment
The TMA for each semester can be downloaded from the Student Zone of the University website. You have to complete the assignment within the due dates specified in the assignment booklet. You will not be allowed to appear for the term-end examination for any course if you do not submit the assignment in time for that course. If you appear in the term-end examination, without submitting the assignments, the result of the term-end examination is liable to be canceled.

IGNOU BBA Admission Process 2024
BBA (RL)
- Admissions are based on merit followed by an interview and will be judged upon:
- Appearance,
- Ability to communicate
- Attitude
- Mental Alertness
- General Awareness.
- Each of these carry a maximum of 10 marks. Candidate is required to secure at least 25 out of 50 to qualify.
- After the interview is conducted, a merit list is prepared which is uploaded on the official website of IGNOU.
- Students would then be able to choose their nearest centre for reporting.
BBA (SM)
- Admissions are based on entrance and interview.
- After the candidate qualifies for the entrance, they would be called for an interview with MKCL.
- If the student gets an internship after the interview, he/she can apply for admission to IGNOU for this program.
- Candidates who are already working with a company can also apply for the Entrance Test, qualify it and then apply to IGNOU for admission after seeking consent from the company.
- After confirmation of the admission by the University the student will be given an enrolment number and admitted to the programme.
Entrance Test for BBA (SM)
The entrance exam is online and consists of 50 questions for 100 marks. There is no negative marking and the test is one hour long. The following sections are covered for the entrance:
- Quantitative Aptitude: 10 Questions
- Logical Reasoning: 15 Questions
- English Language Skills: 10 Questions
- Information Technology Skills: 15 Questions
Note: Candidates who qualify the Entrance would be required to fill up the Preferences for Workplaces offered by the Industry Partners.
How to Apply?
- Visit the admission portal of IGNOU and create your user ID & password by clicking the "Register Yourself" button. Students must remember his/her Username and Password for subsequent login.
- Already registered/ existing users must click the "Login" button and enter their username along with the password to go any further.
- Fill the application form and upload the required documents.
- Pay the application fee through Online Payment Gateway, i.e. by Debit/ Credit card or through net-banking.
- After successful fee submission, take the printout of payment confirmation slip for future correspondence.
- Click on ‘Submit’ to complete the application process successfully.
- Students can keep track of the application status by using their registration number & password.
- Note: Do not send the hard copy of the application form to any of the regional centers of IGNOU.

Ques. Who is eligible to apply for BBA in Retailing at IGNOU for admission?
Ans. Applicants who hold have valid scores in 10+2 in a relevant stream (Category 1) or are sponsored candidates (Category 2) can apply for BBA RL admission at IGNOU. Candidates have to select either Category 1 or 2 for admission.
Ques. How to pay the course fee for BBA admission at IGNOU?
Ans. The total fee is indicated in the IGNOU 2020 Admission Prospectus, specialization wise. The applicants are supposed to submit the fee year wise. The application fee is exempted from this total fee for any discipline in BBA for IGNOU admission.
Ques. Are there any additional courses to be opted along with BBA if a candidate does not fulfill the eligibility for IGNOU admission?
Ans. No, the candidates are required to fulfill the eligibility criteria as far as possible. Because there is no BPP course which could be additionally opted to fulfil the eligibility criteria for any BBA admission at IGNOU.
