National Law University & Judicial Academy, Assam (NLUJAA) is one of the well-known autonomous law schools in the State. NLUJAA is committed to implementing innovative approaches in both the fields of legal education and research. The institution provides B.A., LL.B. as a five-year integrated course and LL.M. as a one-year degree programme. The University also offers Ph.D in law.
Admissions to NLUJAA are through competitive entrance examinations followed by the Counselling Session organised by the concerned entrance examination. For B.A., LL.B. and LL.M., the candidates must clear the CLAT.
In the case of the Ph.D. programme, the candidate must appear for the entrance examination conducted by the University. The candidates may also have to attend an Interview after clearing the entrance test. It should be noted that candidates with certain qualifications may be exempted from the entrance test.

NLUJAA B.A., LL.B. is an integrated course that spans over five years. The intake capacity for the programme is 60 seats per year. For admission into this programme, the candidate must pass 10+2 or equivalent with at least 50% marks.
The candidates must clear the CLAT to be eligible for the admission. Applicants who are appearing for their qualifying examination could also apply and appear for the test, provided they pass the concerned examination and produce the proof of results at the time of admission.

Once the candidate clears the CLAT, they will be called in for the counselling session where they will be allotted seats into the college they prefer. Selection of candidates will be on the basis of merit. The selected candidates must submit the related documents and pay the admission fees if any. The candidates belonging to the reserved category shall be required to submit the necessary documents from the respective competent authority to prove their claim to the reservation.
NLUJAA LL.M. is a one-year degree programme. The students are given a choice to pursue a General LL.M. or a specialised degree. For pursuing a specialised LL.M., the student must opt for minimum four electives out of the six in their preferred specialisation to secure an LL.M. in the concerned specialisation. The total intake capacity of the programme is 10 seats per year.
For admission into this programme, the candidates must pass either a 3-year or a 5-year integrated LL.B. degree with a minimum of 55% marks. The candidate must also clear the CLAT . entrance examination to be considered eligible. Candidates who are appearing for, or awaiting the results of the qualifying examination could appear for the entrance test if they submit the proof of results at the time of counselling.

Shortlisted candidates have to attend the counselling conducted by the CLAT authorities. In order to confirm the seat students, have to pay the requisite amount of fee at the time of counselling.
NLUJAA Ph.D. is the institution’s attempt to give more importance to the field of legal research. The programme can be done either as a full-time enrolment or as a part-time enrolment. The full-time course must be completed within three years while the latter can take about five years to complete.
The candidate must have completed their Master’s Degree in Law with a minimum of 55% marks. Judges from High Courts and the Supreme Court can also apply for the programme.
The candidates must also qualify the Admission Test conducted by the University. Candidates with certain qualifications are exempted from attending the test. Candidates who cleared the entrance test, as well as the exempted candidates, will have to submit a Preliminary Proposal. Based on their merit and the Preliminary Proposal, the candidates will be called in for the interview.

The candidates who clear the admission test and the interview shall be provisionally admitted to the Ph.D. programme. These candidates will then have to attend a course work conducted by the university. After the successful completion of the programme, the candidates should submit their research proposal to the Research Committee. The candidates will be given enough chances to submit the final proposal. After the final Presentation of the research proposal, the candidate shall be allowed to get permanent admission into the Ph.D. degree programme.

Syllabus for Ph.D Admission Test: For MCQs, questions will be asked from Legal & Logical Reasoning. For descriptive & essay, questions will be asked from topics of Contract Law, Jurisprudence, Personal Laws, Constitutional Law, International Law, Criminal Law, Human Rights Law, Environmental Law, Corporate Law and Intellectual Property Rights.
