Chemical and Molecular Biology, IIT KHARAGPUR, IACS KOLKATA

Remarks :

I got my admission through IIT JAM Exam 2023, followed by an interview for the selected exams. Generally, the admission form for IIT JAM gets out in the month of August every year and the exam takes place in February. Once you qualify for the exams, you can apply separately for this course through your JAM rank and then they call for an interview of the selected candidates, after which they admit 11 students out of them mainly based on 30% of your JAM ranking and 70% on your interview experience.

Course Curriculum Overview :

Actually, this course provides me the opportunity to explore 2 campuses, as IIT KGP does this course in collaboration with IACS KOLKATA, hence we get to explore the laboratories of both institutes in the 1st year and then choose a particular lab where I want to do my master's dissertation project. Here the Faculties to the student ratio is exceptional as there are 15 Faculties with respect to 11 students. Most of the faculties are Ph.D. and Post Doctorate degree holders having an ample amount of experience beneath their belts. EndTerm exams come nearly 4 months after the commencement of classes for every semester.

Internships Opportunities :

After the second semester is completed, the student may opt for an internship in the summer vacation gap with prior permission from their PIs, in different laboratories across the country. So, generally, there is a 2-3 months gap, where students prefer to go for internships for their benefit in learning processes.

Placement Experience :

Mostly the Pharmaceutical and Edtech companies visit the campus for placement in our particular branch. And they offer entry-level salaries from generally 5-10 lakhs per annum. Whereas if you are adopted with good coding skills, there are many more opportunities for students upto 30 laks or so, that depends upon your desirability. Mainly students with keen on researches and higher education, join this course every year. Hopefully, I would also like to pursue higher studies, PhD, after the Masters is completed.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

Here, in this course, the fee structure including hostel and mess fees is yearly 1,20,000. They also provide a monthly remuneration of 12,000 per month to all the students of this course. After completing the course one may apply for jobs as there are multiple on-campus placement opportunities every year, but students mostly prefer higher studies in India or abroad.

Campus Life :

Campus life is pretty exceptional and they provide all the necessary amenities for the well-being of a student. Also, all different kinds of cultural clubs and sports facilities are aptly running on the campus. Books are available in the library.

Hostel Facilities :

In the room, they generally provide a bed, an almirah, a table, and a chair. Meal quality is quite good and menus are made, keeping both the veg and non-veg options available all the time. After one gets admitted to the course and the fees of the semester are paid online, they are automatically provided rooms in different hostels for their accommodation.

Interview Experience :

IIT JAM is mainly an MCQ, MSQ, and NAT-based exam. In an interview, they ask for your topic of interest and generally ask questions mainly from those ones and some other interdisciplinary ones. I followed mainly YouTube lectures and a few standard textbooks.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I chose this course because the syllabus resembles with CSIR NET syllabus. Teachers are well experienced and qualified. Exams are difficult to pass and commence every semester. For 77 students there were 17 staff members.

Placement Experience:

There is very few so-called campus placement here. Placements are mainly from IITs and NITs. Here if You are interested in research then only come. Even the students don't think of placements here because It's not a good place for placements.

Course Curriculum Overview:

Here exams are taken semester basis. there are a total of six semesters for graduation and four for master's. I think semester exams are not so difficult to pass, if you attain all the classes it's very easy to gain a good CGPA, also teachers are so helpful.
