Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya- A pioneer Institute in Agriculture Sector for Education, Research and Extension

Remarks :

The admission in Bsc Agriculture is on a Marks basis for West Bengal domicile students. The cut-off this year was above 90%. Application forms can be found at www.bckv.edu.in Website. For admission marks in Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English are needed.

Course Curriculum Overview :

I was interested in studying Agriculture so I chose this subject. Faculty faculty-student ratio is good (1:25). Most of the Faculty members hold Phd degrees in their respective fields and they have done ample of research. All the faculty members are highly qualified. Term exams are twice a semester. One mid-term exam and one end-term exam is conducted along with practical exams.

Placement Experience :

Students mostly go for higher studies, and other students study for banking and govt examinations in agricultural fields like IBPS AFO, NABARD, FCI, IFFCO AGT etc. Placement in BCKV is below average as very few companies visit for placement. The average package is 3 lakh per annum. Overall there are many opportunities for students who want to pursue this course.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

The fee in our session was 6775 rs per sem now that has been increased to above 10000. Opportunities for scholarships are also there, state and national-level scholarships are availed by the students here. Swami Vivekananda Merit Scholarship(18k per year) by state govt. National scholarship by central govt is given yearly. Jobs are offered to selected candidates after completing a course through Campus Placement

Campus Life :

Naihrit is the annual Fest and is conducted in the month of December-January. BCKV has a large central Library in which almost all the books related to agriculture are present, journals are available. There are smart classroom facilities in the college building for the students. Annual sports are conducted by the authority yearly.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I am pursuing a Bsc. Agriculture as I came to know about the job opportunities associated with it. Faculty: The student ratio is poor because of a lack of recruitment in this sector for a long time. Quality of teaching is average because there are a limited number of teachers who could inculcate our interest in this subject through their good teaching methods. Others were just presenting slides and reading out the lines written on them. Random announcement of exams was frequent with only 40 percent syllabus completed in 3 months and 60 percent syllabus completed only 10 days before the exam. Moreover, there were midterm, endterm, and viva throughout 1 month and it was very hectic due to continuous 33 exam papers conducted at a time.

Course Curriculum Overview:

India is an agriculture-dependent country where more than 70% of the people are involved in agriculture and allied sectors, there is a huge scope for improvement and modernization. The faculty and profs are very helpful, no extra tuition is needed, library is available. Exams are not that punctual but moderately easy to pass.

From the 7th semester, students become eligible for the campus Placements. Various Seed Companies Fertilizers companies and many other private companies are visited and various offers are made. The highest Package was 720000 per annum and the average package was 480000 per annum. About 30 to 40 percent of students are getting placements. My plan is to take a placement offered by the Company.
