B.Tech Civil Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology Varanasi (2021)

IIT BHU is counted among the top engineering institutes in the country.  For B.Tech, IIT BHU ranking in India is 14 by NIRF 21. The ranking declined in 2021, compared to last year. In 2020, NIRF ranked the institute 11th among the top engineering colleges. The Week 2021 ranked IIT BHU 8th for overall.

It’s better to not go along with the MHRD ranking if you have to compare IIT BHU among the other IITs, because it has a lot of lapses in it, to mention a few:

According to MHRD, the number of students who went abroad to pursue higher education is just one. However, the fact is, there are many more seniors who went to foreign countries for higher education. Also, the data regarding research publications and innovations by the Institute was not adequately captured by MHRD, and there are other factors too which messed up the ranking.

It is not to be denied that IIT BHU does have few negatives. As you must have found out, IIT BHU doesn’t possess a beautiful campus as IIT Guwahati or IIT Roorkee, but there are reasons for it. The fact is, just the IIT BHU permission can’t renovate a significant chunk of the infrastructure; instead, it needs governments’ permission for it. It is not only because it belongs to the premises of BHU, but also because a few of the resources have been listed as monuments by the government.

If we keep the above things apart, the college life at IIT BHU will mesmerize you. Banaras being a holy place with historic Importance, the city has a lot to see and enjoy, from Ghats to the culture, everything will make you love the city.

The clubs here do a really good job. You will find clubs for a diverse area of Interest, and seniors are always willing to help. When it comes to tech Fest, other than IIT Bombay, no other IITs do it better than IIT BHU. The professors may not be the best of all IITs, but they are easy to reach, and again, you have seniors who help and guide you in academics.

Leaving aside the NIRF ranking, recently, Career360 rated IIT BHU as “AAAA+” and JoSAA ranked it at 8th position among IITs and also India Today ranked it as 6th best Institute, and there are many such rankings by different bodies. IIT BHU is improving itself aggressively, in a few years, it will stand among the old top IITs.
