I am a first-year mechanical student at VNIT Nagpur. Should I try again for BITS? How is mechanical engineering at BITS Pilani when compared to VNIT Nagpur?

VNIT is a good choice for B.Tech Mechanical. I am an alumnus of the Mechanical Department, and my claim is based on the teachers who have taught me during my four years at VNIT Nagpur.

The Mechanical faculty consists of highly qualified teachers. Some of them are-

1. Sunil V. Bopshetty Sir- He taught us Thermodynamics in the most dedicated manner. Sir would explain a single cycle for two hours, pointing out every possible case, and their possible outcomes. We were expected to focus on each and every step while writing an answer.
2. Animesh Chatterjee Sir- Sir taught us Theory of Machines-II and Mechanical Vibrations. He possesses immense knowledge. His insights from his industrial experience have been really helpful for us.
3. Thombre Sir- Though sir is not at all ‘student friendly’, his knowledge is worthy of admiration. Sir has a strict work ethic, and he would always solve all my doubts on Heat Transfer.

The VNIT Mechanical department is reputed and sought after. Also, it’s not wise to repeat a year. Thus, I won’t personally recommend you go for BITS Pilani Mechanical, now that you’re in first year at VNIT Nagpur.
