Yes, it is mandatory for all the students to stay in hostels at AIIMS Bhubaneswar. Undergraduate students from MBBS, B.Sc Nursing, and B.Sc Paramedical and postgraduate students i.e. Senior Resident, Junior Resident, Ph.D. Scholars and M.Sc. are eligible for hostel accommodation at AIIMS Bhubaneswar.
Students at AIIMS Bhubaneswar will be assigned a hostel room by default irrespective of the location they stay at. Students with their houses nearby can stay in the hostels on weekdays and go back to their homes on weekends as there aren’t any restrictions on that. For undergraduate students, the admission procedure for hostels is done at the same time along with the admission formalities for the course. Students at AIIMS Bhubaneswar hostels are advised to carry basic items like pillows, bed sheets, buckets, utensils, etc along with them for a comfortable stay at the hostels.
Every room at AIIMS Bhubaneswar hostels is provided with a bed, study table, chair, bookshelf, and almirah/ cupboard. The rooms are equipped with a ceiling fan and plug point in every room.
No, although AIIMS Bhubaneswar provides hostel facilities it's not compulsory for you to stay in the hostel especially if your home is nearby. As soon as you get admission here, a room will automatically be assigned to you. But if you want, you can stay there on weekdays and go to your home on weekends. There aren’t any restrictions on this. I have seen many students who are locals and like spending most of their free time in their homes. However, I would personally recommend you to stay in the hostel as you would be missing out on a unique life experience.
